What are some of the training routines (cycling) in preparing for a sprint? Since, it is more of a balls to the wall race (for some anyways), do you guys do a-lot of interval training? Just curious as to what people are doing out there.
it is still long enough to be an endurance effort.
bike as much as you have time too, and as hard as you can =)

True. Someone tell me the philosphy of warming up on a bike before hitting it hard. Roadies warm up for a period of time before starting a real effort. Since, you are basically moving out of the water and directly on the bike, is there really much of a warmup or does the swim give you all the warmup you need. Obviously, you aren’t going to warm up like a roadie and if you do, you’ll lose time. Thoughts?
Definitely no time to warm up in a race on the bike!
Some people do a short run or swim before the event to get warmed up though. Plus you often bike to the transition area from your car.
But yeah, don’t go easy once you are on the bike and racing.

I hear you. BTW, your signature convinced me to get a disc, lol. Got my setup last week, which I am going to use for Tris and a Velo Pursuit.
go disc mafia go!
^^ Yep, Zipp 900s, can’t wait to ride that puppy in these Miami Crosswinds. Ha Ha
All out - all the time, but I do that for sprints, olympics, HIM and IM. Swim, Bike and Run. Probably why I’m not very good.
Definitely set up your trainer and do a least one hour-long interval session per week. And mix it up each week – short intervals, long intervals, high cadence, big gear with low cadence, etc. And after the trainer session, do a 15-20 min easy-moderate pace transition run. That’s about as specific as you can get for sprint distance race prep.
Did that today in a measly 5k thought training was good enough to go all outthink I might have hit the 5 min mark for first mile. paid dearly after that. Ever watch Tin Cup? LOL
That being said a smart man would pace on the bike because mos sprints and oly’s are won on the run. Or could be lost on the bike.
I race mostly sprint- and olympic-distance triathlons. I try to do 3-4 rides/week. Generally, I do two group rides (one long, one not so long) each week with the local cyclists. Those are good interval workouts. I also try to do a weekly 60-75 min workout on my trainer that involves some structured intervals (e.g. 2x20 min w/2 min recovery or something like that). And then the fourth ride is an easy ride of ~2 hrs. (plus I commute to work). I’ve had some good results following that routine.
