Trainer Road - Garmin Connect - Show Distance?

Is there a way to do a trainer road workout and have your Garmin Connect record more than just time.

For example I have the Garmin 735xt, I select the indoor bike activity, Garmin Connect just records my total time and heart rate. Is there a way to also have it pick up your cadence, avg speed, “distance”?

I utilized virtual power with the Wahoo Blue SC

Thanks!

You’ll need a speed and cadence sensor as well I think.

I have the Wahoo Blue SC Speed Cadence Sensor
.

Whoops missed that. Do you get cadence info on TR when doing your workout?

If TR is recording the cadence data then maybe importing the TR workout file into GC would give you the metrics you want.

Thanks again!

I’ll research how to do that - or do you know?

Trainerroad itself doesn’t work out speed, it just tracks power. If the device that Trainerroad is paired with is transmitting speed/distance (e.g. most smart trainers do this) then TR records it and will include it in the Strava sync, but it doesn’t show it during the workout (I don’t think). Zwift on the other hand will convert power into speed using your weight, height, gradient, etc.

If you’re using your Garmin to record the workout then you just need to pair the speed and cadence sensor to your Garmin as well as to Trainerroad. And you’ll also need to calibrate the speed sensor so Garmin knows that one wheel revolution equals xxx millimetres. Then it should all be on Garmin Connect, but I guess the power numbers won’t be as I don’t think Garmin has the ability to translate speed into power for any given trainer.

You can sync via the instructions above. If you want to do them manually then click on the TR ride in your past rides, click download, take the file you get and upload into GC. (It’s what I did before they developed the sync feature.)

I just started TR, and have found it easier to link Garmin Connect and Strava to TR and let it upload. I don’t even wear my Garmin on the trainer. Obviously you first need to make sure your speed/cadence sensor is being picked up by TR. If you have a smart trainer (controlling your power) then putting your big into the hardest gear will rotate your wheel more and give you more miles. Since the trainer is controlling power, you will push the same power either way.

Same here. Just started TR and sync’d my accounts (Strava and Garmin Connect). But I am just using a dumb trainer connected with my power meter, paired the speed/cadence sensor, and HRM. Strava and Garmin will spit out the distance based on the wheelspeed sensor settings. I’ve just got to remember to change my gear used in either app as my default isn’t necessarily the same bike I’m riding on the trainer.

I’ve noticed that TR doesn’t record or report left/right balance like the Garmin does. It isn’t a really big deal but something that I noticed. Don’t do anything with the data anyways but just like to take a gander after every ride.
