His projected finish at his current pace is 2:53:47 and he slowed a bit between the 5k and 10k checkpoints.
If you can’t watch it live on Versus go here and type in his name:
IMHO, IM is definitely on the horizon for LA. He will have exhausted the media boost he gets from running marathons and will get bored now. I can see him going to Kona to raise awareness, keep his name in the spotlight. He will lower expectations by saying he hasn’t trained as much as he should, he’s doing it to raise cancer awareness, etc -but it will be fun to watch.
Kona? Lance armstrong? this is sheryl crow’s / old twin ex-bf and mathew mcconnnaghey’s friend… sure he can run a few marathons, but I hear the bike is brutal out there at Kona. You think he could handle it?

I don’t think he can ride!
PS: how embarresing it would be if he enters as an AG and passes napoleon on the bike (with a TREK)
I’m not sure about that. He did NYC and now the Boston Marathons realizing he didn’t have a chance in hell to win. It hasn’t hurt his image at all, but rather kept his name in the media.
Maybe he would do Kona just to keep his name out there.

That is different. he was never viewed as a runner, so going sub 3 hours would be seen as an accomplishment. Failing to win a triathlon where biking is the most time consuming event and the ones that he is viewed as the world best would not be great. And the fact that he came from a triathlon background would even cast it in more negative light. That is not my feelings, just my feelings on the way society would see it. Personally I think just finishing a IM is a great accomplishment.
Actually, I disagree. I think that the general public would completely understand if he didn’t win Hawaii, given that he isn’t a runner at the same level as the top pro triathletes, and isn’t training as much as he was as a pro.
i disagree. look at how much press Jaja has gotten from doing IM last year. He didn’t set any huge goals - just said he wanted to do it in order to stay fit - he trains 15-20 hrs per week and he’s been interveiwed by running, cycling and triathlon magazines about it. i don’t think he feels any pressure to do well from the fans. nor would LA. do you think he really cares what other people think?
since WTC sells out all it’s events already do they really care if LA shows up? Maybe they get some more sponsors or maybe major TV (but major TV did not pick up Boston) but the WTC brand is so strong they certainly do not need LA.
did anyone else find it foolish that LA got to finish on the right side of the course where only the winners are suppose to finish or that he got to break the tape (like he won?)? I must be missing something here becasue he was one of 25,000 that started that race and he did not win.
I guess Verus liked it becasue he really helped Versus ratings with his popularity during his Tour run and Al Troutwig (sp?) can continue to kiss his ass because Lance helped Al’s carreer - but I am sure there were many other great stories in that race they could have covered.
