Did anyone get the English version of last years test? The 2007 version is available on Continental’s web site but I would like to see if there are new contenders for my training and race tires. I have been using 4000s for a long time and it is time to buy new tires!
This is probably it. Note that Tour tests with butyl tubes. I think the TT tire is the same as the 4000S only with much thinner tread. Sort of like the Attack and Force.
Interesting how the tires with higher puncture resistance tend to have the lower Crr. Inverse correlation. Pretty crazy… like some of these manufacturers are really trying to push the tech forward while others rely on marketing or something.
2nd is rolling resistance. A low number is better, so the bottom of the charts is the best tires there.
So, yet again as it’s been stated every time… the 4000S has this remarkable combonation of aero, puncture resistance, low rolling resistance and good durability (good enough ot train on them). It also has a fairly good ride (I think most low rolling reistnace tires ride well) and handles well too. I think any other tire will ocmpromise one of those attributes to improve on another.
Keep in mind that the aero benefits fall off quckly as the tire wears and squares off. So you’ll want a fresher set with less than maybe 500 miles on them before an important race.
I’ve been using the new S-works Turbo 23mm and they roll super fast and feel fantastic. I train on Spesh Turbo Pros which also roll fast and have good wear/puncture resistance. Have not flatted on either one yet. Have over 1k miles on them.
