It is almost impossible to put a price on this without actual doing it. What is the average price that i would be shelling out from the minute i leave until i make it home. Trying to decide on Silverman or Cozumel.
Thanks
Do you fly 1’st class or coach, stay 5 star or 1, limo to airport or park offsite. Flying from NYC or similar or east bum f_ck? Way to many variables for any-one to answer.
For me last year:
Flight: $500ish per person I believe (from Charlotte to Cancun). Check flights to get your price.
Hotel room in Charlotte night before flight: $80ish
Week at Wyndham: Family of 3, $1100ish if I remember correctly, all inclusive with meals (yucky meals I might add).
Race: $550
Taxis: $100ish
Pick up at Cancun, taxi to ferry, taxi to hotel (reverse going back): $150ish I think
Incidentals: whatever you decide - things like food, mopeds, diving, site seeing, etc.
For our family of 3, the total trip was about $3000 give or take a few hundred. Could prolly be done cheaper, could definately be done more expensively.
This was an awesome race - one I’d do again in the future.
I will be traveling business class and would stay at a normal 4* type place. I will be budget minded and the flight is the easy thing to figure out. Just trying to put a ball park figure on it. I would like to know about the hidden cost that is not easy to figure out.
Thanks
I don’t understand why locals don’t get a break on the IM or even HIM (we have a half in Cancun) prices. The cost of these events make is absolutely prohibitive for most of us living in MExico. I’ll probably volunteer at Cozumel but I can’t hope to participate.
To answer your question, we always stay at Tamarindo on Coz and that runs us around $60USD a night (not sure cause we pay in pesos) and then breakfast is from Chedraui - we get the suite with a kitchen so we stock up at Chedraui for food and that takes care of food - for a weekend, $600MN would be more than enough. There is also a great panaderia closeby and that’s good for breakfast also. For lunches and dinner (when they ahve food) we have a favorite Cuban house we go to - it is literally the people’s house and you eat in their diningroom - grandpa catches the fish, you pick it and they cook it. We usually drop $300-400MN a meal there for all 6 of us or we hit up a taqueria and spend around $200MN.
But we have to pay for the ferry ride over (I’m guessing you don’t) but we don’t need airfare.
So around $1200-1400 for lodging, $800 for the ferry, $400 for dinner, $200 for lunch, $600 for food for the weekend for our family of 6 - $2600 without the ferry or about $200 USD.
I assume you are talking about incidentals, since flight + hotel is pretty easy to determine.
We got a good deal on a flight + hotel (all inclusive), so we didn’t spend much on food, other than when we went to Playa after the race.
We had friends who had rented a car, so we didn’t spend much on taxis to/from registration and pre-race swims, but I heard people were spending about $10 a cab ride from our hotel (Wyndham). That can add up if you want to swim every morning.
Other than that, it is vacation/tourist stuff that will cost you. We did a ‘resort dive’ from our resort and it was fantastic, but that stuff will add up quick.
.
There seem to be a ton of condo rentals in Cozumel that I think are a much more attrative and cheaper option then an all-inclusive hotel with food that is probably horrible. I think the 3 bedroom condo I reserved for this year is right around $1200 from Wed before the race to the Tuesday after (I’d have to dig through my files I give the exact total), which will be split between 3 couples, and we’ll be able to cook our own meals. Research some of the condo rentals because I think you’ll find that will be a much chearper option then the hotels.
I think the person who replied with a breakdown of his costs last year forgot to include the airline fees for flying his bike, unless he got lucky and didn’t get charged. May not have been a huge amount but don’t forget about that in your calculations. There is no race bike transport so you’ll have to fly with it.
I am doing IMCOZ this year and taking my family for a week (wed-wed).
The 4 of us (2 kids under 10) go for $2600CDN (yes, $2600)
That includes direct flight toronto to cozumel island (no ferry)
transport to hotel and back to airport for departure included
hotel+meals+drinks
we are staying at an all inclusive very close to the run turnaround.
bike transport is around $50 round trip on westjet
Package thru westjet vacations that was booked a while ago, just a few days ago price went up to $4000+
I think the resort is 4star but not sure
Pretty hard to beat!
edited to add-
I don’t know how picky you are about food, but since a couple people in the thread have bitched about the all inclusive food, i will say that i have stayed at a bunch of allinclusives throughout the caribbean and always check trip advisor before i go. I notice in revies that Americans often bitch about the food, but the food always turns out fine, so take that with a grain of salt.
