Toronto councilman anti-italian, anti-asian, but wtf, anti-bike?

sounds like an asshole. any canuks here?

  • Rob Ford causes a drunken, expletive-laced disturbance during a Leafs game at the Air Canada Centre in 2006, when he shouted "You right-wing communist

bastards," and “Green party f—ing rules.” At first, he lies about it, then he apologizes.

  • In a war of words with Councillor Gloria Lindsay Luby over a pothole, he calls her “a low-life” and “a waste of skin.”

  • In 2002, Ford calls Councillor Giorgio Mammoliti a “Gino-boy,” a derogatory remark to Italian-Canadians.

  • During last year’s budget deliberations, Ford opposes bike lanes: “Roads are built for buses, cars and trucks. My heart bleeds when someone gets killed, but it’s their own fault.”

Are you sure he’s not American? He sounds like it. He’s Green Party and anti bicycle…interesting. Maybe he’s just a drunk.

These people driving buses, cars, and trucks never die while driving them on these roads he speaks of? Is it their fault then as well? Even if someone else caused the accident?

You can tell he put a lot of thought into that statement. Either that or Canandian drivers are so incredible that no one ever dies in motor vehicle accidents. They just run cyclists over? WTF???

“Asked Wednesday night about his comments, Ford said he meant Asians are further advanced in business than they were a century ago.”

What a knob. Nice backtracking.

And in a related story, Don Imus said he meant the Rutgers women’s basketball team had interesting hairstyles and should be more cautious when choosing a man.

I’ve been following the recent commotion over the Asian comments. For a city as cosmopolitan and multicultural as Toronto, we have a tendency to elect municipal officials that are incredibly unpolished.

On the other hand, one has to look at it this way: he’s still not embarrassing as Mel “Noooooobody” Lastman. Some of the stuff he said in office was just downright mystifying, almost as if he lived in a parallel universe.

i expect more from candians. from personal experience, they are not as racist, less arrogant and more friendlier than americans. but this crackpot is a real piece o work.

Please, continue to expect more from us…

My experience with the US and Canada shows me that we are a little more accepting of “those people” (just kidding!). However, we still have got a pretty good inferiority complex to our southern neighbours though… It makes me laugh that every time someone mentions Canada on a US television show, we all still go “Hey, they mentioned us! Canada rocks!!”. Of course, the inferiority complex doesn’t extend to hockey.

Hockey Night In Canada
.

Once upon a time, about 15+ years ago, Toronto almost banned cycling from the entire city. It was only going to be allowed on the fringes. Someone probably has a better memory than me about this.
