Top 10 Rock Bands of All Time

According to two guys on the internet who i think got it from Google’s AI.

First, can you guess who’s on the list before scrolling to the next comment?

Second, who do you think doesn’t belong on it, and who do you think is missing?

For the purposes of this question, lets assume that the bands included are “what they mean by rock band.” There are no solo acts, and two or three of the bands might not really be considered rock, but are sorta close.

The list:

1 - Led Zeppelin
2 - The Beatles
3 - Pink Floyd
4 - Queen
5 - Metallica
6 - Rolling Stones
7 - ACDC
8 - Nirvana
9 - The Who
10 - Guns N Roses

For me, the top 3 are the top 3, could quibble over the order. Rolling Stones are the only other band that could be considered for top 3.

Queen a couple of good songs but overall? Same for the Who. Not sure who I would replace them with.

Now that I think about it not sure Nirvana or Gun N Roses really cut it either.

Not one of my personal favorites but I feel like The Eagles probably belong on that list over Nirvana or The Who.

Good one. Some objectionable things about them, but I’d agree they should be there at the expense of someone.

Probably Metallica because they’re in the wrong genre.

Thinking about this and noticing according to the list there hasn’t been a top 10 band in almost 30 years. I think I’d put Radiohead on the list ahead of some of those bands. Although I guess they are only marginally more recent than Nirvana or Guns N Roses.

I think that would exclude Nirvana and Guns N Roses too if that were the case.

Made me think Black Sabbath might also be a worthy top 10.

Rolling Stone at #6, while not a fan myself, they should top 3. AC/DC should sit at #4.

Metallica belongs in the bottom 5 for sure, but Nirvana and G-n-R? No way.

Without knowing the criteria for “Top” I can’t really hazard a guess for the rest of the bottom 5. But there are some NWOBHM like Iron Maiden I would say fit given their longevity and stadium sellout capacity to this day.

Id say nirvana and GnR are pretty solidly rock bands, especially GnR. I would consider grunge a sub genre within rock. To me, metal seems like it’s own distinct thing.

Top 10 by what measure? Would have guessed that 1,2,3,4,6 being on the list. It’s really a personal taste contest after that. I don’t like ACDC but can see them being there.

I see Guns N Roses as coming out of the whole LA glam metal scene, but what do I know.

They have a lot of banger songs, but their lyrics are awful.

I think the list is pretty good except for GnR.

Possible replacements for GnR:

Aerosmith
Green Day
U2
The Eagles (even though I hate them)
Red Hot Chili Peppers

I was surprised Aerosmith wasn’t on there. Hadn’t thought of U2 but they were huge.

Interestingly, Queen was a top 10 selling band across three decades.

I think they were significantly bigger in Europe than in the US.

But, then again, you listed 5 bands who you think shouldn’t be on the list. That means you’ve got to find five replacements.

The problem with the Eagles is they are really a country band that got mainstream exposure. Rock they are not.

Where is Fleetwood Mac? They are still being played, covered, etc. We can’t do any gig without 2 or 3 of their songs either being specifically requested, or asked for on the fly. Hell, lately we have just put them in the rotation.

Personally I’d probably mostly leave the list alone, except move the Beatles up to number 1, and then replace GnR with Aerosmith.

Good call on Aerosmith.

My list would pull out Metallica and Nirvana for U2 and Aerosmith. And I don’t personally like listening to Aerosmith that much.
