I’m trying to find the right Park Tool(s) to remove the FSA cranks and DuraAce BB from my P3SL but I’m not sure what type of BB/spindle the DuraAce uses.
Does anyone know which tool(s) I need?
Thanks!
Rob

You need a “6 - prong” BB cup remover for a cup and cone lockring style BB. The tool won’t have all 6 prongs engaged, typically just 3-5. You’ll also need a Shimano or ISIS splined OCTALINK compatible BB tool. This has about 20 or so splines that engages into the adjustable cup on the BB.
I’m learning to love the Pedros and Wrench Force tools.
If you need to remove the cranks. Get a Splined BB crank remover (I actually like the CAmpagnolo one with the little shimano “plug”) and a 8mm or 5/16" allen wrench.
Both crank bolts are right hand threaded. The BB is threaded left hand on the right (drive) side and right hand on the left (non-drive)
Good Luck!
Hello SD,
Is the splined BB tool for Shimano square taper BB the same as the one for shimano octalink BB?
Thanks,
Styrrell
The spline pattern is the same, however, the square taper units typically only had a 18 mm i.d. where the spindle would engage, to remove most Octalink BBs with their 22mm spindle, you’ll need a newer tool. The exception here again is the Dura Ace Octalink cup and cone BB. You can remove the drive side fixed cup with the old school 6 pin/prong fixed cup remover, then remove both the cup AND the spindle. This just leaves the non-drive adjustable cup, after removing the lockring, the remaining splined cup can be removed with both the old, small i.d. tool or the new one.
Of course you can’t do this with the Dura Ace Octalink Sealed BB, the Ultegra Octalink sealed BB, the 105, or the new Tiagra unit. Only old DA and old XTR where the spindle could be removed with either cup.
I love the new external bearing BBs for service ease.
