Tonsillitis & Training

Hey all, appealing to the medicine types out there.

Am currently training for 1/2 iron distance 3 races this year and have come down wtih Tonsillits (bacterial type) and am now on 10 days worth of meds, day 2 today - feel a bit better today (meds working) but how long do I leave it before continuing to train - docs advice was fairly nonchalant and said leave it a few days and see how you feel but what do you lot think.

Apologies if broken any rules but new to ST and from the UK so excuses, so excuses…

My completely random and non-founded advice is give it 24 hours from when you last had a fever. No evidence whatsoever but it’s what I would do.

Jodi

After suffering from acute Tonsillitis, I 86’d my tonsils at 35 a year and a half ago. Have not been sick since. I used to train casually when I was on the meds.

Just a warning, if you don’t kick it with the course of meds you are taking, it can continue to come back and it can be really bad. I would suggest waiting until you are really feeling good (not just an improvement).

I was gonna say to do light training (recovery/light aerobic) until you are sure that you are not spiking fevers in the evening (when they tend to do so).
If you have a fever…the 24 hours post without meds to lower temp is a good rule to work from.

Other than that, do what you feel like doing is MD advice to you and seems reasonable.

Thanks guys, feel pretty good now - no fever and off NSAID’s and paracetamol, just the Docs prescribed Anti-biotics. Will take all efforts out and just spin on the bike until weekend and then re-assess.
