Tomas Rodriguez Hernandez Caught Doping

Eduardo Perezsandi is now responding to the allegations made against him because he was Tomás training partner and is coached by the same Doctor.

He was tested in Boulder, looks like ITA immediately went after him after Tomas tested positive in Texas.

Tomás was in Boulder but DNS’d that race; he either knew that he had tested positive, or maybe was trying to avoid getting tested.

reading Cody Beals article, i agree with his statement he wrote at the end
People should be able to respectfully express skepticism without being branded a jealous loser, a hater, a racist or a defamer.

but imagine you are clean athlete and your performance was clean, and you face all those accusations of being not clean, you must be very strong to continue.
lets take example Sam Laidlow, supposing he is clean, while in a lot of social post (reactions), every time he is questioned by Mr Von Berg , senior. if you are really innocent, then you take that to court for slander as this can damage so much.
i just don’t know anything and think there is so much unknown stuff behind the scenes.

There is no upside to going to court

A slander case could be very expensive with no prospect of positive outcome even if innocent.

Can you afford to get in to a endless litigation?

Not in Europe, particularly France. If Laidlow went to the Gendarmes and complained he was being falsely accused they would do all the investigations. Defamation is a legal offence not a civil offence here.

Has the investigation been completed and closed?

True! I just saw he made 11th, but you are right, very low level competition. Here is (translated from a Spanish media) his full curriculum:

Tomás Rodríguez, 25 years old, only had 4 ITU results; At the age of 19 he finished 17 in Copa America, La Paz, Mexico, in which practically only Mexicans ran. In his next two races, one per year, he either failed to run or withdrew. Finally in 2020 he ran the same race again, this time placing 11th, with the worst time and almost 7 minutes behind the winner.

Then his track goes to the middle distance in 2021, two IRONMAN 70.3 races, finishin 25th and then 11th, in 2022 he runs 5 races and achieves 2 IRONMAN 70.3 podiums, finishing above 10th place in the others. In 2023 he wins the 70.3 Cozumel and debuts in IRONMAN precisely in Cozumel, placing 8th just ahead of Mikel Ugarte.

And suddenly this year he wins the IRONMAN Campeche, and then he goes to the IRONMAN 70.3 Oceanside and finsh 45th with 32 minutes behind Sanders. Two weeks later, bingo, he wins the IRONMAN Texas with a great time of 7:42: 38 and a 2:34:14 marathon

Fairly decent results in ITU.

Doping on not, if you have seen Tomás run (IRL) you´ll notice that he has talent (techically) and can run fast.

what was he doing before 2023? he seemed to come out of nowhere.

I wouldn’t call his ITU results decent, those races were low level conti cups, he was running nearly 33 mins for 10k at 22, far from what I call decent, and certainly not fast.

the reference was to von berg

it was private correspondance, never intended for publication, it went to a third party that forwarded it on, as far as I can tell, and I am happy to be corrected, the person that put this in the public domain was laidlaw himself to which vonberg responded. I am trying to see the slander / libel given they were never stated publicly by the person he directed his ire at

I don’t know if Sam Laidlow is doping or not (same for any other athlete, but we keep discussing Sam over and over again), but if there’s one special character in the sport whose decisions aren’t always mainstream, that’s exactly Sam.

Sam wants to win IM WC. He won in Nice, he wants to win in Kona. He doesn’t care (much) if he’s losing in T100 / PTO. He often doesn’t race if he doesn’t have to. Again, he wants to be the IM World Champion. Then, he’s a family man: father as coach, mother as guide, brother also in tri. It’s not hard for me to believe, that if the moving houses was to happen around the racing time, he’d have prioritised what’s important for the family and for him. In the end, the house location allowed him to train uninterrupted to become the WC in Nice.

Last comment on Sam and others: Sam is on the Registered Testing Pool. He can be tested any day of the year. Contrary to many other athletes (also those winning T100 races or IM TX) who could only be tested +/- 1 day around the race itself. I recommend you look there.

Would still argue for everything I wrote then – need to make it more uncomfortable for drug cheats. Fwiw plenty of others are proposing lifetime bans. Rules can be changed. I know they have to follow current policy but they can use their clout to advocate for positive changes.

He’s unlucky he doesn’t come under the purview of USADA or they might have brushed it under the carpet

Is Rodriguez the one in the white tri suit? For reference, the white strips in high speed Canadian highways are 3 m long with 6- 9 m spacing, this is definitely 6 m spacing, so the rider in white as well as the one ahead and behind are spaced at about ~9 m. Only one guy further up ahead is keeping longer than 9 m. So I hope Beals also complained about the other guys (definitely not Lionel) to the ref.

FWIW, he was riding fair in Texas.

Really curious to see the results of the in-depth clomiphene residuals study.

Yeah, he’s the one in white.

I always had a problem about this particular race. He had a great bike split that he wasn’t able to replicate again that season. If you look at his bike splits in Oceanside for 2022 and 2023, that Mt Tremblant will stand out like a sore thumb.

Beals admitted to taking non-banned painkillers before races yeah? So some pain killers are “clean” and some are not. Similar to going to an altitude camp or sleeping in an altitude tent to raise hemoglobin 3% is “natural”, but microdosing EPO to raise hemoglobin 3% is not. Lol.

Don’t disagree, but it seems similar to his St. George bike split. I would find his 2:00 split at Cozumel a bit above expectations for a lightweight rider on a flat course.

But then, he also rode really well in Texas, so maybe his W/CdA is more competitive than his W/kg…or…he found a better “race group dynamic ;-)” as Beals accused him of.

Yes WoW! Let’s extend the ban to Russia!

Not sure what you are laughing about, you dont seem to have a clue. I did a lot of altitude camps, even lived there(and still do) and the most I ever got was about 1 1/2% gain on my HCT%…EPO can raise it to the moon and of course is illegal. SO to do to your comparison, one can go hammer up mountains all day and increase your power by 20 watts, and that is the same as a motor in your bike getting you that 20 watts, you ok with that too??

I hate these stupid comments with false equivalencies, you guys just make shit up, put them together, and somehow it makes sense to you, just stop it…

I don’t totally disagree with you, his bike splits are a bit all over the place, some are pretty good, and some are crap (like Oceanside he usually rides crap there). I didn’t mean to imply that his bike got better because of doping, I was actually accusing him of being a pack rat, and a drafter.

The rules are pretty black and white though. You either took something against the rules or you didn’t. You can try to claim there is a grey area, but there really isn’t.

That’s a good point:

2.1.1 It is the Athletes’ personal duty to ensure that no Prohibited Substance enters their bodies. Athletes are responsible for any Prohibited Substance or its Metabolites or Markers found to be present in their Samples. Accordingly, it is not necessary that intent, Fault, Negligence or knowing Use on the Athlete’s part be demonstrated in order to establish an anti-doping rule violation under Article 2.1. 2

Has there been a study on the effects of long-term consumption of clomiphene contaminated eggs?
