Tom Tom Cardio review

I have owned a bunch of Garmins including the 910XT but am considering the new Tom Tom Cardio to get away from the chest strap.

Anyone have one? I read DC Rainmakers review but am looking for thoughts from other users.

In my experience, it’s a total piece of crap. I really liked the idea of ditching the chest strap so I had high hopes and gave it more than its fair shot. You’re supposed to wear it super tight, higher up on your arm than I think most people wear a watch. That’s annoying, but I guess one could get used to it. It’s also got a weird design that’s fundamentally uncomfortable (at least for me and DC Rainmaker’s girl.) The deal breaker for me was that once I would start sweating, the HR reading would totally go away. According to the forum on TomTom’s site, this seems to be a common issue so it wasn’t just me. It’s a really cool concept that I hope somebody gets to work reliably someday.

As an FYI on the sweating issue, it was a hardware manufacturing defect on some units they started resolving in June. If one happened to get such a unit, TomTom would swap it out pretty quickly. From what I’ve seen, those that had the swearing issue and got fixed units no longer had the issue.

(Doesn’t change the comfortableness aspect of course, or the maturity of the software platform, etc…)

Just try the Scosche Rhythm +. Been using if for a couple of months with no dropouts or issues at all. I have worn it on my wrist, forearm, upper arm and ankle. DC Rainmaker has a nice review if you check his site.

So far I like mine. Hate the straps but really need to use HR for a bit. I’ve not had the sweat problem, nor do I have it on super tight. In fact I’ve been using it as both my watch and GPS the last few days without a hitch. Ran today up a mountain and I’m drenched with no problems… Get it from a place you can return it, worth a try. Only thing is I’m still not used to the smaller numbers, it’s not 3 lines of type like the other watches out there

Are you referring to the Cardio model or the one with the chest Hr strap?

I’ve been using the multisport watch with the strap for about 6 months now and I’m ready to trade it to you for a 910 if you’re interested! The watch functions well, my only gripe is having to end a workout and start a new one at each transition rather than just hitting one button like a stopwatch. Then, I am not a fan of the blutooth. It’s really nice to link up to your phone, but the fact that all of the bike computers work with ant+ really is killing it for me. I can’t just use my bike computer for HR, power, ect., I have to use the watch and the computer. All in all, nice design and looks great, but the ant+ compatibility and non existent race functions ruin it for me.

The Cardio model is the one that reads Hr from the wrist or arm. No chest strap. That’s the model I am asking about.

Yes but that is the only difference. The software is all the same

Yes I meant I don’t like HR straps which is why I got this Model. Again I was soaking wet this morning and no problems at all

This one?

Tom Tom Employs Sexist Ad To Showcase Running Watch Feature

Women are largely steering the course of the running industry. Despite this, Tom Tom is attempting to sell its watch utilizing sophomoric sexualization irrespective of who actually holds the power. It chooses the easy road, which only further illustrates how little the company knows actual runners.

What was this thread about again? I got distracted…
