Tom D, LOOK 486

Tom, I was taking another look at the picture of Stormin Normans 486 that you put in that great article on Phulethttp://smileys.smileycentral.com/cat/3/3_4_16.gif and wondered what the seat angle is. It looks pretty close to the geometry of my Kestrel 200sci which has a seat angle of 74 degrees.

Just trawling the net to see if I can get an N2S jacket to run in, see you back here later.

Just bumping this up the list to see if Tom spots it this time.

Hi Julian, As is usual I’ve been running in and out of the office here all day checking out the board and doing stuff. We’ve been quite busy today. Mike O’Donnell, another one of our FIST certified fitters, sold two Cervelos today.

As I mentioned, I didn’t feel quite right about publishing the exact dimensions I took off Norman Stadler’s bike since I measured it in the transition area when he wasn’t around, the same time I shot the photo of the bike you see here:

However, let me tell you this: Stadler, as you can see, is using a straight seatpost with a Selle Italia SLR saddle oriented very far forward. If you were to deduce that this orientation nets an effective seat tube in excess of 76 degrees I would not have grounds to dispute this analysis based on the nature of my observations, the exact content of which I am not at liberty to disclose due to methods that may have been employed during the acquisition of this intelligence.

Thanks for the response, Tom. I appreciate your reservations in disclosing the dimensions taken from Norman’s bike without his consent, however I was wondering if you had access to Look’s published angles as I couldn’t get any from the website, nothing more.

Have a good evening.

Julian,

Look is VERY traditional with their angels and will stick to the basics of 73 degrees. The link above gives you the geom. of the look.

Tom, thanks for the article on Phuket! Might consider it for 2005! Do you know what seatpost Norman is using on his bike?

Hey postmanpat, I’m not sure which post that is on Norman’s bike. I’ll do some research and post back here later.

See you in Thailand in '04!

They must be good bikes if Look is utilizing angels in their construction. They’d be almost heavenly.

Pat, thank you for that information, that is the missing link (the one I could not find!) all I need to find now is the diagram that these measurements relate to.

I’ve been looking at Stadlers 2004 Hawaii ride…SWEET. He is using a AX lightness post, now that will set you back a few bucks!

Tom, I’m trying to work out if Stadler is on a 55cm frame? I’d guess you’d now from the measurements you took…any chance of letting us know?

Cheers
GH

Hey Julian,

This is off topic off your thread but I wanted to ask you something. I went to Paris recently and had a three hour layover at Heathrow. We went into a bar and grill in the airport to kill some time. I looked around and thought “Boy, these English folk sure do like their beer” (everyone in the almost full restaurant had a beer but us). Then I realized that it was 7:00 in the MORNING! What is up with that? Do you guys really drink beer with your breakfast?

Leigh

Do you guys really drink beer with your breakfast?

Personally Leigh, No. But hen I rarely drink anyway. I too, have observed the “beer breakfast” phenom but would say that it is something that is rarely seen outside of the airport environment. For some reason there is a percentage of people that seem to think that the holiday starts at the airport and therefore so does the drinking regardless of the time of day! I kind of understand it if the flight has a long delay but boy are they going to suffer the efects of flying and a hangover after!
