Tom D. Easton Bars

Tom,

I have a pair of Easton Attack bars, and well you are the only person I “know” that has them as well. I have had them on the bike for a little over a week and so far I love them. My question is, do you get any crackling sound when you are out of the saddle or on a rough road? I am getting this sound and I can’t tell if it is the bars, the stem or something else. I bought the bars brand new, and everything looks/works great. I live in a hilly area and the crackling is driving me crazy. Any thoughts?

Thanks,

Neal Dunn

I absolutely love my Easton bars. They are a superior one piece design. However- no product is perfect.

I do get an internal cable rattle in my Easton Attack aerobars. It is marginally annoying. When I am holding the aerobar the sound is “damped” by my hand around the aero extension. When I hold the base bar grip section it is much louder and quite annoying. I’ve gotten as used to it as I can- which isn’t very.

When I got mine the brake lever situation had not been sorted out. I got either two lefts or two rights- can;t remember which. It took a few phone calls to get that sorted out.

Beyond those two (admittedly minor) annoyances I like them very much. I am looking forward to the new Visiontech one piece carbon bars with the flat wing base bars. Those will also be interesting.

I haven’t had any “creaking” or crackling sounds though.

Let me know what you think this might be or if you fix it.

Tom, thanks for the quick feedback. So far I love them too. I had a pair of HEDs and found the arm support not supportive enough. So long I love the Eastons, but the crackling is driving me crazy. It is possibly the cable routing but I don’t think so. I will let you know if I ever figure it out.

I love my Easton attack bars also, however I have 2 minor complaints: 1) I’m gettting the same crackling noise that you’re talking about (when I stand up and hammer) and 2) my bar extensions are too long and I want to cut them down (supposedly you can’t with these bars). I think the crackling is coming from the stem/bar mount. If Tom D. is not having problems with this, then I bet it’s a problem with improper mounting. I didn’t have the problem initially. Overall, these bars are incredible: They’re light, very comfortable, and cool looking (but very expensive)!
