Sounds like a bit of a clown anyways…
Doesn’t seem like he will get suspended unless the UCI or maybe WADA decides to press the issue. Hopefully they won’t.
He could only get a suspension for cocaine had he been tested positive for cocaine during competition, not off competition. That said, he could have problems with the belgian law, as cocaine consumption is illegal in Belgium and most of Europe for that matter.

I heard that before but do not really understand the reason behind it.
Wouldn’t a hunger suppressing substance be of help during training?
Wouldn’t a substance that makes you feel like Tarzan and Superman at the same time help in a rough workout as well?
Thanks

I think amphetamines are the drug of choice for that uli

Neither the Flemish Community, who carried out the test, or apparently WADA consider it doping unless it is an incompetition test. His legal woes might even be relatively minor because of his Monaco rather than Belgian residency.
I envision a scene like in Harold and Kumar, where Boonen is snorting it off the ass of his 16 year old girlfriend while crashing his ferrari.

How was he never told that people whose jobs involve wearing spandex, are expected to have a fair amount of humility.
//They’ve all seen your jimmy Tom… and no one is impressed.
I really don’t know any better so I’ve gotta ask:
Aside from the fact that cocaine is illegal, why is it a banned substance for an athlete? I can’t imagine that it helps in any way, and I assume that it would hurt the athlete somehow although I’m not sure how … maybe rcovery? maybe something else I’m unaware of? …
Just something I’ve always wondered.
It just adds to his list of legal problems, with his multiple licence suspensions and speeding problems lately, maybe those were because of the coke… Great cyclist, but should know better than to be powdering his nose.
Why? he is just 27yo, really rich and famous in his country. Why do you expect a behaviour any different than what you see in Hollywood for instance? It’s not all that surprising after all…certainly not excusable, but not surprising either.

It’s a stimulant so could improve performance in any number of sports.
Yes, indeed, Cocaine is more for those days when these guys haven’t doped for a couple of weeks and they need some drug to compensate.
Look on the bright side, now maybe Boonen will get signed by Rock Racing and earn a living racing crits!!!
as cocaine consumption is illegal in Belgium and most of Europe for that matter.
Just wondering which these European countries are where cocaine consumption is legal…
Switzerland at least. Probably others.
Oh my! Tommeke…boo hoo
Maybe he was just out for the night partying with Jan Ullrich.
“I am the Kaiser. I crush the souls of the weak. And I party with the Boonen.”

Stimulants were the drug of choice back in the 70’s and 80’s, before all the super drugs hit the peleton. I remember the first time I ever heard of it. It was during a race in the early 80’s, and 20 minutes before the final sprint of a road race, this guy took out a couple sticks of gum and began chewing them. I asked later what was the deal with the gum, and it was explained to me that it was cocaine gum. Of course it was used to get that extra boost for the final sprint, which we all know can sometimes be like a swim finish, just 1/100’s seperating places sometimes. I also saw guys sticking needles into their thighs during races, but I never got an answer to what that was all about, but I can now make a pretty educated guess. And all that was for a few dollars, or some bike store swag. Prize lists in cycling were pretty thin back in those days…
These guys are rockstars, it’s hard to feign suprise they behave as such. If memory serves, Ullrich couldn’t stasrt the 2002 tour because he was injured in a drunk driving accident … which followed not too long after his suspension for amphetamenes (his defense being that the ecstacy pill he took while clubbing was laced). Stephen Roche won cyclings’ triple crown before packing on the lbs. drinking and chasing women (bet he caught a few too). I think Roche also blew the money hew made trying to be a race car driver. Mario Cippolini - “If I weren’t a cyclist I’d be a porn star,” " I want to die in an orgy." It’s not too much of a stretch to imagine him indulging in a recreational lift.
Imagine trying to hold football, basketball, baseball, boxing, insert sport here, to the same standard.
I almost feel bad for the best pro triathletes who can probably aspire to a modest house outside of Boulder or San Diego and a coaching business. No houses in Monaco, Ferraris or cocaine and podium girls - bummer.
