I have a recurring problem with the toenail on my big toe of my left foot due to injury many years ago. This nail has to be cut back very very low and is very painful if I don’t - (ingrown nail). The monthly procedure to cut it back is also painful and messy.
I am considering having the nail permanently removed - has anyone had any experience with this procedure - will not having a nail in any way make me a better (or worse) triathlete? I will be lighter for sure.
that is a simple fix…you need to go to a Podietrist (spelling error I am sure)…
I used to get ingrown nails and had then taken out 3 times…VERY painful each time by Doctors in Walk In Clinics…then my buddy (Dr. Bush @ Rockford Orthopedic Associates) on evening at his office off the books fixed it for me for good. He made my toe numb by tightening a rubber band on the toe for about 5 minutes…then worked the blood past the band back into my foot. He then cut out the ingrown nail and applied some chemical that would prevent (and has) the nail from ever growing there again. He DID NOT remove the entire nail. I never had pain from it and I was in the pool the next morning - running 3 days later. I have not had an ingrown nail since.
I had the same procedure done on 3 of the 4 sides of my two big toes. Although my podiatrist numbed the area with a shot of novacaine or something. The rubber-band method sounds a little caveman-esque to me. Absolutely no problems afterwards and no more ingrown toenails.
Cave man as it may be - there was no pain and I was a happy patient - what ever works right?
Thanks for the info guys.
I go in at 3 today to get the nail “yanked-out”.
I am driving down to a Tiajuana Doctor/Auto-body shop repair facility - I am getting a great deal - free nail removal with every transmission repair. Maybe I will pick-up some Rx and a quickie divorce while I am down there.
I am supposed to bring my own pliers… I assume it’s for the transmission…
