Toe taping for ulras, little toe problem

My problem is my little toe on left foot rides under the toe next to it.
Would it be appropriate to tape it in place up higher on the neighboring toe? On long runs I start to get a blister on the little toe from the toe on top pushing it down.

If I tape is leuko tape the correct product? I might try toe socks if taping is the wrong direction.

I had a similar issue, went away by going to a wider toe box + Injinji socks.

I second the wider toe box, but also you can get a toe spacer and tape that between the 2 toes. It might help. I have to do that sometimes between my 2nd and 3rd toe.

I run in pretty roomy shoes, I though it was the socks being to tight so I tried looser ones and it didn’t help, my toe goes under even barefoot.
Il look for a toe spacer and try it on some training runs.

They sell transparent silicone toe covers. Bought some myself on Amazon and they worked great to prevent blisters and protect my nails.

Definitely try Injinjis, but as far as tape for toes (which you can do with or without the toe socks), a thin tape is best, like micropore in the 1" size. Use tincture of benzoine to get it to stick, and don’t tape the toes too tight - you don’t want any wrinkles but don’t strangle them (and, get the tape off when the race is over). Also use something like 2toms sportshield (a teflon like anti-blister substance) on all toes over the tape. I used to tape all my toes for longer races, I’ve backed off on that except for the longest races and mostly use the newer trail weight injinjis and the 2toms but wrapping in about 2 layers of micropore can really help. Also make sure your shoes are big enough in the toe box.

I use silicone toe cover under Injinji toe socks for my big toe and second toe. I used to also put one on my little toe because it gets squashed under the one next to it. But eventually I stopped doing the little toe. My solution is for it to get squashed and then I just try to take good care of the callused skin that’s left after the blisters heal up.

I do about five marathons a year, most of them between October and January, so the toe covers help reduce the damage of repeated marathons close to each other. I don’t really wear the toe protection for long runs, just races.

Hope this helps,

Have you tried just using a heavy dose of Glide on your toes before long runs?

Heck, I used to dip my foot in a big jar of Vaseline. No, the issue with my toes is that they take a lot of damage on the ends, so protection is what helps more than lube.

Thanks for all the info everyone. I took everyone’s advice and went to Google and found a pretty good resource.
I don’t how accurate the info is or reliable but it seems pretty good.

Another vote for Injinjis. I also put Body Glide on my toes.
