To the guy on the Lakeshore trail in Chicago on Saturday

Yes, you, Mr. Felt AR-1 with the deep dish Zipps and the full Felt get-up, who almost nailed me as I was running past the Shedd Aquarium.

How about “On your left!” or maybe “Passing!”??? Or do you enjoy using runners as a slalom course?

P.S. Good choice on the all-black kit… it was only 183 degrees outside.

Rant now completed, let me say that the Lakeshore trail is an awesome run… and seeing an F-15, F-16, A-10, and a P-51 flying formations over the city was especially cool.

If you ever get the chance, do it.
If you live in Chicago and get to run it regularly, lucky you.
If you ride it regularly, please be courteous.

I hope you don’t plan to rant every time you get clipped by a bike on the lakefront trail. You’ll be very busy.

The lakefront trail is a great one for running - not so much for riding. You have to deal with tourists at and around Shedd, then you have picnics and wanderers around 35th street if you’re going south. You have tourists around Navy Pier that don’t expect you to fly by at 23 mph.

If you’re riding seriously along the Chicago Lakefront path, you’re in the wrong place (not that you may have a huge choice). If you’re running on the path - just stay as far as you can to the right - I find that runners can certainly take less path than they typically do.

.

WTF were you running that late in the day for? I was out at 7am on the N.side & it was already a cooker! Glad you enjoyed our city having 27 miles of park along the lake is a nice feature!

Nope, this was a one-off deal. Just an overnight trip for the wife’s birthday, and her 2-hour spa treatment was the only time I could get out and run… happened to be between 2:00 and 4:00… brutally hot.

When they were available I used the gravel ribbons on either side of the paved trail- nice- but Mr. Felt and I crossed paths where there were none.

I forgive him.

The scenery was too good to let it ruin my day.

That’s all you can do. Glad it didn’t ruin your run. I’ve since moved from the lakefront, but as far as running goes, it’s as beautiful as it gets.

Damn! Lucky me I was in Madison otherwise this would be me. Any chance did you throw a water bottle to the rider?

I wish I had one to throw!

It was so hot, in order to keep my heart rate at an acceptable level I had to run a full minute slower than my normal pace. I was an idiot to be out at that time of day without water, but luckily there were fountains at McCormick Place and at the beach where I turned around.

I was this close to diving into Lake Michigan towards the end. It looked so cool and refreshing…

I was in Chicago Thursday and Friday so I have to jump in on this one. First off…holy shit it was hot. Second off the “scenery” on the trail was UNBELIEVABLE! To the girl wearing the black shorts and black top running by the volleyball courts around 10am…you’ve re-defined smokin hot.

Gotta admit that F-16’s buzzing Wrigley Field was amazing.
