So Hope all you want. It will get you squat. Things will not change until people take responsibility for their own path. Sadly, I don’t see this happening in the near future.
Personal responsibility is key. However, their has been a fundamental shift in our society that I have noticed over the last 20 - 30 years - less and less people actually take responsibility for their actions and what they do. People seem to go out of their ways these days, to look for fault elsewhere. It’s never their fault - it’s always someone elses.
You are right on. Also, we all look to point out what's wrong with everyone else, instead of what's right, to prop ourselves up and build our egos. To quote Monty Python:
But yet he can’t take responsibility for questionable items in his own past:
his racist pastor/mentor
his borderline terrorist friend/political advisor
his convicted felon friend/biz partner
So it’s easy to TALK about personal responsibility…but then when you don’t hold people to it, what good is talk?
It’s like saying “no dessert before dinner” to your kid…then handing them a cookie anyway.
Things will not change until people take responsibility for their own path. Sadly, I don’t see this happening in the near future.
We’ve just ended 8 years of textbook irresponsibility. Remember this one from Bush’s 2004 press conferences when asked to name a mistake he has made:
“I’m sure something will pop into my head here in the midst of this press conference, with all the pressure of trying to come up with answer, but it hadn’t yet.”
“I don’t want to sound like I have made no mistakes. I’m confident I have. I just haven’t… you just put me under the spot here, and maybe I’m not as quick on my feet as I should be in coming up with one,”
Please. He has made statements about every one of the accusations. How else is he supposed to “take responsibility”? What else is expected of him that other candidates and Presidents have done?
The freedom to not be tortured and imprisoned and wire-tapped without due process… just for starters. The freedom to get on a plane without being body-searched. The freedom to not have to pay for frivolous Neocon wars. The freedom to not be hated for it by most of the people in the world.
Name one US Citizen who was not fighting against the US military (i.e. John Lind sp?) has been tortured.
Does the world now love us, or did we not see all the flags with President Obama on them and being burned

This is a tired argument.
Not to mention all three examples are of things done/said by other people. I thought we were talking about personal responsibility? Sure, you can do your best to surround yourself with the “right” people, but no one can completely control or predict the actions of others.

So you agree with him on all the other stuff** **
Who has had their phone tapped? only on calls coming from or going to countries with known terrorist ties. And if having a body search prior to getting on a plane prevents just one crime be a hijacking or anything else so be. If they did not have the TSA doing searches and something happened who would get the blame…
Classic. Your examples of his failure of personal responsibility all involve what OTHER people have done. That would be like bashing Bush for not taking personal responsibility for the actions of Kenny Boy Lay of Enron. Questionable alliances? sure. Personal Responsibility? Are you serious?
Personal responsibility must mean different things to different people.
Gone are the days when it meant taking care of family and keeping a job, being faithful to your spouse, and not just taking blame when you’ve made a mistake, but taking steps to make up for it. It now apparently means you have to be careful who your friends and acquaintances are. If you’re invited to join a board of a charity you better be careful who else is on that board. And do a background check on anyone you go to dinner with.
Come to think of it, the guys in my poker night are pretty seedy. I better drop them as friends, as I heard some of them did drugs 30 and 40 years ago.

The freedom to get on a plane without be searched has nothing to do with government freedoms. The government is just the bad guy who had to put that into place. This is a case of one person(s) ruining it for everyone.
How many times to you see things being closed because one person acted irresponsibly and sued, leaving the others to not have their fun? Is that the fed governments fault too?
Interesting. Since you replied to me, should I assume you are inferring that I am a political spammer? If so, have you reviewed my past post before making such an assertion? If you look at the first page of my posts, you will find 25 posts. If you exclude the 4 in this thread, you will find that all 21 of the remaining posts are non political.
Interesting that you posted this on a thread that is critical of O’s message of hope and not a thread that trashes GWB.
So now that the magic O is the president, is it time to silence certain people.
**my biggest wish is that the ingoing party is incompetent and nothing will get done. that would be the greatest blessing of all. **
Wow. Do you really believe that? That has to be the most un-American thing I have heard in a long time and will do our country no good whatsoever.
Do us all a favor and move to another country where you truly wouldn’t have any freedoms, particularly as a woman. I suggest somewhere like Saudi Arabia.
There are times when it is better to do nothing than to do harm. There are people that firmly believe, myself included, that if O gets his way and is able to implement many of the things that he has talked about, it would do great harm to our country. So should we sit back and go ahead and hope he is successful? Should we move? Or should we hope he is unable to do harm?

Awesome!!! Dance puppets dance!!! Everyone is starting to sound like each other. I don’t know if you are a Republican or Democrat or whatever but you sound just like the other guys. I am having a blast.
yes that’s right. i hope the ridiculous increased spending and tax plan doesn’t happen. and i hope the ambitious environmental plans never materialize. why? because it is a recipe of failure. the market can and will work for itself without expensive corporate welfare programs and environmentalism that is expensive and disasterous to our businesses.
and while you’d like me to move to Saudi Arabia, because that would do you a favor (which is very much an unAmerican statement, by the way), no thanks. i’m a tax paying, productive American, just like you.
while the liberal elite don’t want to hear anything about smaller government & less spending, there are a few of us who will continue to fight the good fight to keep the overly ambitious environmentalist at bay, and speak out against high taxation.
meanwhile, you go ahead keep drinking the kool-aid and while you’re busy doing that i’ll continue to work hard and provide opportunities for other people, pay my taxes, and stand for what is right.
lastly, i now realize that obama and his old school politician possie is not worth getting worked up over, given the democrats have a history of not being able to deliver on their far reaching promises.
