Tires options for Tri Spoke front

Well I will be running a wheel cover on rear since I am too cheap but I know most use the Bonty RXL TT 19mm, but I just noticed Mich. PR3 comes in 20mm now too, now I would guess with they would be slighter less aero but better CRR and better ride maybe?

any options?

plus the PR3 is cheaper

pr3 is a very nice tire. conti gp triathlon is nice.

I’m in the same situation.
Wheel cover on rear and recently bought a used trispoke clincher for front.

For the trispoke I just ordered the Conti 4000 in 20mm.
Since this season I’m using Conti 4000S 23mm on my other wheelset.

Had Michelin PR3 before and not really feel any difference.

I would stick with the Bontrager tt tire. I use it with a Michelin latex tube. Very fast rolling combination.

Nothing cheap about using a wheelcover. A very sensible aquisition.

Haven’t tested a PR3 20 but the new and lighter AW 19 (I’ve tested one at ~ 0.000270 with a few miles on it) rolls better than the PR3 23 which I’d guess would roll better than the PR3 20. I’d stay/go with the AW 19 on front which per Andy at HED tests faster than the H3 wheel they have on the HED aero charts.

listen to AFM.

Bonty TT tire rolls better than almost most tires (and all those listed so far on this thread) and it beautifully matches the tri spoke rim from an aerodynamic perspective. awesome combo!

I have 23’s on my Hed 3 wheels currently. Any disadvantages going to 19’s? I assume they’re slightly harder to control since they’re thinner but what else?

I’ve ridden 19’s, 21’s, and 23’s in front and not been able to tell the difference from a handling perspective.

There is an argument to be made that the 23’s will provide more puncture protection but it is marginal at best when you think about it, and a no brainer since it’s only the front and you would definitely take a measureable aerodynamic hit using the 23’s.

Go with the bonty tt 19’s…that is unless you’re M25-29 in which case stick with the 23 PR3’s.

Are you saying 19’s front and rear or 19’s on front only?

the ideal setup (in my opinion) is a HED3 with a Bonty TT 19 tire in front, and a rear Jet 60/90 C2 rim (23mm ride) with a well rolling 23mm wide tire such as the bonty RXL pro.

19mm wide tires with 19mm wide rims, 23mm wide tires with 23mm wide rims.

Gary, how do you like the 4000s? How does it compare with the 4000?

I rode the GP 4000s in 23mm last season together with Michelin latex tubes in training and races.
Not a single flat, light and durable, they ‘feel’ fast. No complaints at all. And not to forget low priced.

Was changing from Michelin PR3 because of the tests in Tour magazine (and others) where the 4000s placed at the top.
In german:

Just ordered the GP 4000 20mm in black for the front trispoke and haven’t rode it yet.
But guessing and hoping for no difference to the 4000s.

Surprise surprise, a German magazine found the German product superior!

Good tyres anyway. I have them on a training set and have yet to puncture (tempts fate!)

It even get’s better:
I’m a german who who rides a german tire (on an american bike ‘Handmade in U S and A’) found superior by a german magazine!
Shocking!

The Bonty 19 is sooooo much better fitting on the HED3 than anything else I have tried (conti PR2 Pr3, Zipp). The combo “looks” exactly like what you would like a tire-wheel combo to look like (i.e., the "eye-ball windtunnel). I think you would be crazy to run anything else on this wheel

Ditto

If they only came in red.
