Tips for changing rear tire with horizontal dropouts?

The 2008 version of Litespeed’s Saber (which should be in next week  ) has horizontal drop outs. I’ve read that changing the rear is a little more difficult. Any tips/tricks of the trade to share, especially since I’ll be racing on it next Saturday?

Take the qr completely off, small cog and use a piece of a rag or something to keep your hand from getting dirty. I think it is easier than my road bike with vertical drops.

I find it easier to replace a tire with horiz. dropouts. Loosen the QR and pull - once the cassette clears the dropout, remove the chain. Don’t worry about it.

How does taking the quick release (skewer) completely of help?

requires less “width” to clear the chain from the cassette.

Look at the bottom of the page. Videos of how to do it and keep your hands clean.

I have a klien with horizontal drop outs. Large chain ring, small cog, Grab derailler whells, rotate counter clokwise to strech the chain, pull tire back out of drops then move tire forward then up and out. Hope this helps. Kenney

O.K. Never had to o that with my Klein. It does take getting used to though. When I started riding a bike with vertical dropouts, I was amazed on how easy it seemed. I had just gotten used to it.

The forum search feature is your friend

Once you get the hang of it, it’s no harder than vertical dropouts. Just practice a few times and you’ll be fine.

Thanks all. The vids help since I am mechanically challenged

Once saw a guy at the side of the road banging the crap out of his back wheel on his P3C. Seems he thought it had vertical dropouts…
