Timing Chip in pocket?

Anyone ever just pin your timing chip to the inside or outside of your pocket? Don’t see anything saying it’s illegal. Just seems like it would be less energy expended then on your foot where you have to lift it a few thousand times.

This is so stupid

Or is it the smartest thing ever? Flippant remark much appreciated. Wouldn’t be a legitament st post without it.

Keep the timing chip on your ankle where it was designed for the best “read rate” and then go with carbon fiber shoe laces to offset that extra weight.

No
.

Right…so your just moving the weight from your foot to another spot on your body…how does your question make any sense at all? The closer it is to the RFID mat the better. This is by far the dumbest post I have ever seen on Slowtwitch

  1. coat timing chip with Body Glide
  2. grab ankles
  3. insert timing chip “A” into slot “B”
  4. RACE!

Will explain.
I believe physics is the reason it would be better to move it from a pendulum (your leg) vs static load (your core) but if the matt won’t read it if it’s 2.5 feet off the ground then I guess I’ll have to move it.

Explanation: the Velcro strap on the chip holder is worn and long so on my small ankles it only adheres about 1 cm. Can’t get it snug and it feel like it’s going to fall off or at least rub a wicked blister on my ankle.

Hmm… I think the aerodynamic drag saving may justify your actions.

Heck, if we even penny-pinch over aerodynamics of skewers, I don’t see why we shouldn’t study the aero drag of the timing chip. It definitely can be streamlined better.

Oh…it all makes perfect sense now. Yes, you should also put your running shoes in your pockets to get rid of that weight as well.

Yup, I do it. No way I want that extra weight on my feet.

I also had my toenails surgically removed.

Yes because the drag while running is so tremendous. Seriously…you have got to be kidding me. You can’t run fast enough to have any aerodynamic drag hurt your run…this is borderline insanity

Ha! Well I think we have a consensus
That’s what I get for making the weight argument when it’s more of a fit argument. Good luck to everyone racing this weekend, wherever you are.

I wouldn’t want to be the volunteer that had to retrieve that one.

I really hope you are trolling. Your physics aside, timing mats are tuned to read no higher than the knee.

Most are made to be able to read bib tags (all the major ones read bib tags)…

I had my legs amputated and bought Pistorius’ blades off eBay to save weight. He doesn’t need them anymore.

Is it? Or is it so smart that it just blew your mind? Is it so brilliant that your mind is spinning like a top? Is it so genius that your world is coming crashing down around you?

Great question. I have the same issue. I always try to get these on and have hardly any velcro attaching. I ask boy are most people that fat that they make them so it does not work on skinny folks?

.

Some of these chips have pretty crappy velcro. What about putting the chip in your pocket to avoid it getting knocked off in the swim?
