Timex ironman problems

I bought a new one at walmart about 6 weeks ago. The display is starting to disappear already and is useless with the light feature. I live at the beach and have taken a few ocean swims and it is already quite cruddy and wont stay clean.

So, I have been wearing these for about 15 years. I used to figure the life was gone from about 3 years until the battery failed. The last one I bought crapped out after a year, the most recent has lasted six weeks.

Is the version sold at walmart for $35 a grossly inferior big box version? I was talking to a woman at a local swim shop who said speedo manufactures lower quality goggles for sale at big box stores. Also, I did not keep the receipt for a $35 purchase I expected to last at least one year, hopefully 3. If I send this to timex or walmart, will they honor a return?

There’s a good chance Walmart will take it back.

First, I’d try WalMart. Failing them swapping it out for a new one (if you paid with a credit card, they have your receipt), Timex has always been very good with their customer service. I just got my watch back from them–it was not quite a year old, and the case fogged up permanently. Sent it in, asked for a repair (they no longer make this model, so even if I HAD gotten it from somewhere like WalMart, I couldn’t have traded it in). In the end, it couldn’t be fixed and they sent me a brand new one. All it cost was return shipping.

Hi this is Darryl with Timex… I see you are having an issue with the Indigo Light on your new Timex Ironman watch, please contact me at dmooney at timex.com so I can personally take care of repairing or replacing the watch for you.

Great customer service at Timex. I own two watches from them: an old school T5K170 Ironman watch, and a T5J041 heartrate watch. They both just* work. *

Will be buying additional watches from them in the future.
