? Timex Bodylink

For you users out there. I have an athlete I am coaching who had recently purchased the Timex Bodylink Trail runner as her HR monitor/GPS device. The setup includes a HR strap, watch, and GPS unit to be worn on the arm. She cannot get the HR and GPS to work simultaneously and from the manual it looks like another “data recorder” is needed for these to work together and also for downloadable data. Is that correct?

If so, that’s kind of crappy to buy the GPS/HR for those functions, but then stuck with another $75 purchase to get them to work together. Maybe we are missing something and someone out there could provide some advice. Along that lines, how/if do you use it in a race or is it too much of a PITA?

Thanks!

If you want to send the workout to a PC you need the adapter - other than that from the “Chrono” menu you should be able to see both. Make certain that the light is green on the GPS unit before moving too much. With out the data part you can see your last workout and everything you need to know.

She may need to click and hold the display (top/right and red on my bodylink watch) button to have the watch ‘search’ for any new signals. My watch picks up the HR when getting ready inside the house. I go outside, turn on the gps unit, go stretch a bit, come back see the green light and put it on, then I click (not certain if I really need to hold) the red display button, the watch finds the GPS pretty quick.

On chrono mode she should see new fields (pace, speed, distance) available for display once the gps unit signal is accquired by the watch.

If you want data on the computer, you do need a 4th device (watch, hr strap, gps, data recorder) to record the data for upload. I have not purchased a recorder so don’t know much about it, but don’t like the need for all these devices (I like my garmin 305 all in one unit - I blindy drop the strap as a device when I think of it

That being said, you can get lots of data from the watch by navigating through each of the ‘pages’ on the watch and type them into the computer manually. The summary page has almost too much data for me and my simple needs, so I typically go to the lap data page and get 3 pages of data for each lap I had for my workout. I usually manually hit the lap button, but you can setup the watch to click a lap every mile or km or some other distance.

Sometimes you need to hit the upper right hand button on the watch twice in order to pick up signals from both the GPS and the HRM. The data recorder is not needed but certainly well worth it. You can download the data for analysis and plug in the gps data for mapping. I run through batteries like crazy on mine but it gets a lot of use.

the last 2 posts are correct. the watch will pickup the HR monitor first and then you need to hold down the upper right button to locate the GPS. if that doesnt worked you can contact/mail your system to timex and they will either fix it or replace it.
