Nobody is selling the data collection device except roadrunnersports.com - but you have to call them, it is not on the web site.

The best price on the S+D+HRM is at TriSports.com, but you need to use the trinewbies.com discount code -15% off.

There is also a trinewbies discount code for Roadrunner sports. You can find both of these at the Trinewbies site, you may have to search the discussion forum to find the codes.

I got my gps from http://www.watchnthings.com/fitandsporwa.html. I’ll probably get the HRM and data recorder (when it’s widely available) from them. They were the best price I could find last winter. No problem with the order. And I have not connection to them other than as a customer.

EBAY…

A few EB stores are selling this 59551 system for a steady $180-185 (+ $5-10 S&H)!

I am interested in the system as well. I have a question (I think I allready have the answer, but want to confirm it). I allready own a timex speed and distance system with the gps unit. To get heart rate functions and the pc interface I will need a new watch, strap, and the pc interface thingy–right? Thanks in advance.

since I’m replacing both an old timex HR monitor (1st gen, mixed feelings) and a bike computer this system seemed a good deal

but then I considered that:

a) in nyc and on my trainer a lot. I’d have to get a separate computer for distance, right? that kind sucks.

b) in races, where do you put the gps unit? in a bag on the back of your bike?

c) display is small, no? not ideal for a bike computer?

would like to get one, so plez talk me thru a, b, and c…

All,

I’m opening a Tri shop in Brooklyn, NY, and I have a few Timex Bodylink S&D systems in stock, as well as Polar HRMs. I can’t say that I’ll have the best possible price compared to the web – those guys on Ebay will always undercut a specialty shop. But I’ll come within a few bucks of any of the established web retailers. Feel free to send me a private note with your address and I’ll be able to quote you a delivered price with the “slowtwitch” discount applied.

Zee, I’ve been using the S&D system in Prospect Park the few times I’ve actually been able to get out for a run these past weeks. Once I’m actually in the park it works VERY well. If my workout calls for an 8 mile run, I don’t have to worry about fact that the park is a 3.4 mile loop – I just run 4 miles, turn around and go back. And if my workout calls for running at 90% of 15k pace, I can keep myself pretty damn close to that. For the times you’re on the trainer, the HRM is pretty accurate. But if you just wanted an HRM, I’d go with a Polar.

Personally, I wouldn’t wear the GPS in a race. But if you do want to wear it, slide it onto your arm during T1 and keep it on for the bike and the run. The display is on your wrist, so it’s not that hard to see.

You are right with the exception of the old strap. It will work with with the new unit but the new one is much smaller and worth the price. Now it’s the same size as Polar.
