What time would one expect to do at Ralph’s Half if one was say a 5:30 at Wildflower. I am thinking of trying to go for a IM qualifying spot next year in M45-49 and Ralph’s seems to have spots for several IM’s but I don’t have a frame of reference for its difficulty.
Well I would guess you would need to be sub 5 shape or better on the WF course to be in contention for a spot in you AG. I think Ralphs only has one spot, so maybe try another IM? You’ll need to be around 10:30 in an IM to qualify depending on the course. Do a search on the qualifyer races and see what it takes.
I think the Ralph’s bike is nearly as slow as Wildflower. Pretty close anyway. The big difference is the run.
It takes a 5-flat to be in podium range at Ralphs in the 45-49 (which is my AG next year!).
No way the run is 30 minutes slower at WF.
I think it will take a 4:38-4:42 to win the AG at Ralph’s and get the Kona slot. I expect to be in the 4:55-5:00 range, and well out of the running. My big dream is to make top 5 there next year. I went 5:09 this year with a terrible swim and terrible run, off of inadequate swim and run training.
I’m moving up an AG, but I don’t plan on getting any slower just yet!
MarkS, if you can make the trek to Ontario, the Muskoka LC tri and the Peterborough Half ironman have bags of IMC slots. In fact, last year at Peterborough, the slots rolled right through the field.
I got an IMC slot at Ralph’s in 2002. They only had one IMC slot for my age group (50-54). I do not recall if they had more for the other age groups. In addition, they had slots for every other North America IM, but the IMC slots were the one’s in demand.
By the way, I was 12th in my age group and since they gave out the slots late in the day, everyone ahead of me had already left or was not interested in an IM slot.
