I lowered the front end on my bike by approximately 1/2" two and half weeks ago. Nothing else changed in my set up. Since then the tibialis anterior muscle on my left leg has been sore (even had a little tendonitis - I think). The left side seems to be getting better, but now my right leg is getting a little sore. Does it make sense that lowering the front end without adjusting fore/aft or saddle height could cause this soreness? I’ve never had these issues before. Could it be that all the running I’ve done over the last three months is finally starting to catch up to me? Anyone else ever encounter this?
That would be an usual cause for anterior tibial tendonitis. I suppose a very narrow hip angle (i.e. lowered your front end, and riding shallow?) could induce more foot dorsiflexion (the main action of the TA muscle) and be contributing, but I’d look elsewhere.
Thanks Rod. My hip angle definitely narrowed some, but not because I ride shallow; I ride with the nose of the saddle about 5 cm in front of the BB (and I ride fairly far forward on the saddle). My front end is just pretty darn low now. It doesn’t seem like my foot angle has changed, but I can feel a difference in my glutes.
I may just chalk this up as a running issue that coincidentally appeared in both legs around the same time I adjusted my bike fit . . . stranger things have happened. Thanks again Rod.
Mike
Are you using fins in the pool? if so avoid those for a bit.
aside from the fins, did you change your run form? lowering the front end will not make it sore which i just did on my bike a few months bike. unless you pedal with your heel down and flexing your feet up with a big gear but chances are its running related.
