Tibbs jr. comes in third

In the highly competitive world of Cub Scout Space Derbies my son and me have sanded and carved and painted many attempts at the faster rubber band powered rocket in Cub Scout history. This year we came in third again, victory not yet in our grasp.

The Space Derby is a race involving little space ships with a rubber band that spins a propeller and sends the little ship zipping across a gym on wires. It is quite fun and very crafty.

While I find the third a little disappointing my son is happy with the medal and candy he got and is looking forward to the pinewood derby.

I need to see the world more like him.

maybe you should have used Livestrong rubber bands!

very cool for him, my 10 year old ran a 5K with me last month, he looked like he was going to vomit near the end, but when he won third place, he said it was a great day

Kids just want some hardware. Placing is unimportant.

Sounds like he is satisfied with his best; didn’t need the external validation.

My son is 7 yo and in the third grade. We love to play golf and swim together, and this year I am coaching his hockey team.

I think kids don’t value winning nearly as much as we think they do. I think they value being in the game and playing, followed closely by spending time at play with dad. I don’t think any of my hockey players have any idea what our won-loss record is.

Glad you were able to have a good experience with your boy.
