Thru Axle Recommendations

Looking for some ideas on replacement thru axles for my disc bike. Had it a couple of months now and am having repeated issues with the TA’s coming unscrewed during even benign rides. The OEM axles are a cam-type closure similar to a regular QR skewer. Thread it in, then close the cam. Problem is, the throw on the cam isn’t real long, so it’s impossible thread the axle all the way in and still close the cam. Usually have to back it out half a turn or so to barely be able to get it to close.

After 30-45 min of riding I’ll look down and find the axle has started to unscrew. The cam doesn’t open or come loose, the axle merely rotates in the threads. Never had this issue on my thru axle MTB.

For my frame/fork I need 12mm axles with a 1.5 pitch. Looking for recommendations on a good aftermarket axle. DT Swiss RWS and the Shimano E-Thru axles seem like good contenders.

Save your debates about the (de)merits of disc brakes and thru axles for another thread please.

There are a few expensive European options like this: http://www.carbon-ti.com/products/axles-and-quick-releases/x-lock-12-mm-rear

Here is a good American made option: http://robertaxleproject.com/

Can’t say enough good things about the DT Swiss RWS thruaxles I have. Biggest issue is if they have the size you need.

I love the maxle, clean look, just need to make sure you have an Allen key on the bike.

Second robertaxleproject. Ordered a bolt-on for my mountain bike due to not liking the factory axle for the rear, well worth the price, has worked great and haven’t had to re-tighten it once.
