I recently purchased this beauty (2020 S-Works Roubaix):

Thru-Axle specs listed are as follows:
FRAMEFACT 11R, Rider First Engineeredâ„¢ (RFE), FreeFoil Shape Library tubes, threaded BB, 12x142mm thru-axle, flat-mount disc

FORKFuture Shock 2.0 w/ Damper, Smooth Boot, 12x100 mm thru-axle, flat-mount

I really wanted “quick-release” thru axles, so I purchased these DT Swiss ones with the same “specs”:

When I got them, they seemed to fit - the Thru-Axle goes in ok and I can tighten it. However, upon careful examination, it seems the threading on the end of the thru-axle doesnt full catch in the frame (on drivetrain side) and ultimately they are not appropriately working.

Also important to note, the bike currently has cheap Shimano WH-RS770 wheels on it - not sure if thats a factor.

Anyone have any thoughts??

Thru axles are not as simple as skewers.

You’ve identified 2 parts of the variables;
(1) axle diameter and
(2) hub width (inside width)

but of course, there’s more to the story.
(3) Thread pitch. Either ‘fine (1.0)’, ‘medium (1.5)’, or ‘coarse (1.75)’.
(4) axle length. This is the OUTSIDE width that accounts for the width of the frame/fork + hub width.

Not sure what you mean by fully ‘catching’, but I assume you mean that it’s threading in, but not reaching the outside of the frame. In this case (if it’s true), your axle is too short (#4).

Thanks for the reply. Yes, its not reaching the outside of the frame and appears to be short. Given this, do you know of a compatible quick release thru axle that would fit?

Don’t accidentally search for Robert Axel instead of Robert Axle.

As others have already said there are multiple parameters you need to look at to figure out the correct size.

To start, let me know what the outside width of the frame/fork is.

They’re may or may not be a solution for you. I’ve run into this sort of issue before and haven’t been able to find the right combination of specs to work with my frame.
