10 ! wow what were they thinking… if they are not very weight weenie I’d be looking to replace with something lighter and 6mm
There’s really no need for a 10mm hex for the relatively low torque requirements of a thru axle. I think I would look at replacing the stock thru axles with ones using a 5 or 6mm hex head. That’s more than big enough, plus they’re fairly ubiquitous tools. Relatively lightweight, included on most multitools, and easy to find/borrow in a pinch.
I’d just replace the thru axles with something that calls for a 5mm or a 6mm hex key, 10 is stupid big.
Salsa makes a bunch of sizes, as does Rockshox, Wolftooth, and the Robert Axle Project.
I agree with others that 10 is overkill - and the tool mentioned - you would have to have HUGE finger strength to get that tool to open a locked bolt…![]()
Hope this helps
.
Maybe its 10NM torque setting. I may have posted some bad info.
Ill take another look tonight and actually remove the wheel for the 1st time an see what size wrench it takes.
Its only been a couple days since Ive had it.
Sorry.
Zoom Zoom
its a 6 hex not a 10
.
Sorry all for the bad info.
I tried to delete the post but its still up I guess.
