For the last few years, i have been using exclusively my old TT bike on a wahoo kickr Gen 1 (+6y old).
While the QR fit was never really perfect, it was good enough (poor design of the “drop down”, that required some adjustment screws)… After few years of shaking the bike on a stationary trainer, i finally broke my frame few weeks ago. So time for an upgrade!
I refuse to use my good bike(s) on the trainer (i seat a lot), so i more or less need a dedicated indoor set-up.
Just about every bike are now Disc, so it’s probably not a bad idea to get a trainer that take thru axles (better fit, and avoid the problem above)
But, these days it’s about the same $ to get a cheap bike + wahoo Gen 5 than going directly for the wahoo Bike.
Any thought?
Note: i must be able to use the trainer with aero bars.
I’ve had the wahoo bike for a few months and love it. No chain or cassette to make noise or maintain. Even when just doing structured workouts I like to adjust he climb feature to give me a different position.
I love it. Happily replaced setup like you described for the Kickr Bike and do all my Trainerroad workouts on it. I have it setup in road bike position. Others have tried to add clip on bars and such to go for a TT position—I’m not sure how well that works. I’ve had it for a year and no issues.
Zwift was having a crazy sale on these a little while back, not sure if that is still on.
The bike is great. I have the kicker but my wife wanted to start indoor biking and rather than switching bikes on and off the trainer, we bought a trainer bike. Much easier to switch the positions, no worries about the bike on a trainer. Maintenance is virtually nothing. My only compromise is having to use her Terry seat but it’s not that big an issue.
