Beinga long time sufferer of depression…biochemical and have tried several meds. Make sure you have established the problem is biochemical exacerbated by situations, and not just situational.
Next thing, you will have to possibly try a few meds to figure out which one works best for you and at what dose. This is trial and erorr under the supervision of your physician.
And ask him/her about all of the side effects which you might encounter while on the meds and consider the side effects if and when you decide its time to go off the meds. When considering going off the meds after alleviation of symptoms never never ever go off cold turkey and simply stop altogether. This can have very very bad effects and make you feel horrible…personal experience here.
good luck and make sure you have a good support system in place while you embark onyour journey to get out of your depression.
I was on Prozac for a year. Best thing I ever did. If you have depression, you need to get it treated. See a psych, take the meds, and make the lifestyle changes needed.
