Thoughts: Decibel vs Sweep R

I am trying to decide between these two helmets. The Specialized Decibel vs the Bell Sweep R.

Any thoughts by real world users?

What is with all this carbon showing up in lids?
Don’t get it!

Okay okay… there is alot of things going for carbon…but once i had to remove a splittered carbon post from my bike and had the next two days in hand agony with carbon slivers/splinters under the skin… don’t fancy that much on my head thank-you very much!!

Don’t have experience of these lids but carbon doesn’t interest me in a helmet (both lids pass the same safety standards) so the Decibel is out. Have also been thinking about the Sweep as my Pneumo replacement and the quality of the Meteor II I just got has reassured me that it is a good one to go for.

I vote for the Sweep

bump.

Hey Mac

i have a Sweep and it rocks! and i think they are a bet less cash then the Decibel. you can get a Sweep from Excel sports for less then $90.

Dan…

The carbon is part of the internal structure in the Specialized helmet that allows for the unparalleled venting present n the Decibel by supporting the ribs of foam and allowing the channels/vents to be there.
As far as the safety of using carbon in helmets, according to a helmet safety standard in the US: if any part of the helmet detaches during testing, it must offer no laceration or puncture hazard.

While I haven’t tried the Specialized Decibel, I do have the Sweep R

The reason I went to it is cuz I wanted a helmet that I could get a lot of air through and have it fit my odd shaped head. I origionally wanted a Giro Pneumo but it just didn’t fit right and instead of giving in to fashion I decided to go with function.

The pneumo was too narrow for my head and I wasn’t able to eat comfortably while it was on.

The Sweep seems to be a wider helmet than most I’ve tried on with some very large openings to let air in and out. I’ve worn it a few times on some cooler days with my helmet liner on and it was definitely colder than other helmets I’ve used.

Try on both helmets, bring a Cliff bar along to eat and get the one that’s more comfortable. If neither is, then look for something that will work for you. Don’t give into what looks cool.
