Do we live in the same town? It rained Monday? Oh yeah I guess it did for a few minutes. I didn’t know that he was cancelled. I caught him at the Pagaent back in March and he was intense. I wore a Nuge t-shirt to a Lilith Fair concert and wasn’t as warmly recieved. Another example how bikers rule. I also wore a ‘W’ shirt to a Ani DeFranco show. Talk about ugly looks…
I also know that for a short while Derek St. Holmes teamed up with Brad Whitford from Aerosmith for a project. Never heard any of their songs though.
It amazes me that some young people today have never heard of Van Halen and claim to be into punk but never heard of The Ramones. Also my young cousin just picked up guitar and says that he LOVES Ozzie, but when I played War Pigs he had never heard of Sabbath!?!
Okay…you wore a Nuge shirt to an Ani DeFranco show. You’re lucky you’re still walking around with both testicles, guy.
What was that line from that '99 movie, “10 Things I Hate About You”? I think it went something like “So…you want me to listen to music by chicks who can’t play their instruments?” (paraphrasing here).
THAT’S what I think of when picture Ani DeFranco, or Kate Bush or that Tori Amos person
no complaints here! I heard tons of that Cat Scratch, Dog Eat Dog, GWBuffalo in the lounge in h.s., but the only one that made it into my old-man CD collection (lost all my vinyl in a Navy move - go figure!) was that 1975 Ted Nugent album (Stranglehold, Stromtroopin, Hey Baby (love to try those lyrics on my wife - almost never works), Snakeskin Cowboys, etc.) There is nothing finer on the trainer in mid-winter.

Tool rules, by the way. And System Of A Down

Look all you want but you will not find a picture of Ani Defranco on the hottie thread – but she does know how to play the guitar - and quite well.
I also know that for a short while Derek St. Holmes…
My bad. I think Derek St. John was a porn actor, or something. Regardless, Nugent used to KILL!! I remember that line from his live album, where he dedicated a song “To all that Nashville pussy out there”.
That was classic, and extremely daring for the late 70’s. I think our local rock radio station (WRIF) played it uncut and unedited one night. Caused a bit of a stir in the paper the next day.
Yep, I wasn’t down there either, and it didn’t rain too hard where I was (in chesterfield at a friend’s helping my 9y/o build his first real fishing rod). I got a good 80 miles in out to Labadie and Grays Summit earlier. I’m sure I’ll see you on or around WHC some day.
I have a 15y/o daughter who sings along with Pink, LedZepp, and even Elton John’s “Levon” on the way to rowing practice at CC Lake this morning at 5am. I took her and a friend to the Johnnie Johnson tribute at the Pageant so they could see Chuck Berry live before it’s too late. Kind of cool to see them appreciate some of the old stuff. She’s aware that I have a Ted guitar pick from a concert in Indy back in 1977 - I’m keeping it hidden or she’ll have it on Ebay!

How good is Ani? Is she Yngwie Malmsteen good? Or Carlos Santana good? Robert Cray? The-guy-from-Living Colour-good (Vernon-somebody)? The list is endless…
Rightly or wrongly, most women don’t get “Rock God(ess) Guitarist” props. Except for maybe Lita Ford.
I have his Live album from Hammersmith '79. It always cracks me up to hear him introduce “Wang Dang Sweet Poontang” as a love song. Or tell the audience how it breaks his heart that he can’t eat all the sweet English pussy out there - but that he sure is gonna try!
Good for you! I got in a bad 30 in at CC Lake that day. I live 1 minute from there and often I am there early with the rowers.
My daughter is 11 and I’m taking her to see Avril from 7th row in a couple of weeks. I picked her up from the 4th grade once and she rolled down the window, sighed, and the looked at me and said “Dad, I just HAVE to listen to some Bob Marley on the way home”. I almost cried.
By the way, I’m sticking to my elitist snob comment from earlier. My store is in Ballwin, so I know all about you Chesterfield types.
I grew up in Ballwin and my first concert was Terrible Ted at Super Jam at Busch Stadium, along with Jann Hammer and Jeff beck, Jefferson Starship, and Fleetwood Mac. Wow, that was a long time ago.
Small world. Geez, maybe I should advertise here. I spend all of my time here anyway. My first show was Guns-n-Roses opening for Aerosmith in '87. I was 12. A few years ago I saw Slash playing a solo gig at Pops and I got to meet him afterwards and I mentioned that '87 show. He said that he remembered it…but he was SO drunk when I was talking to him I doubted very much that he remembered the show he just played…
No, I live in UCity (near the WashU track and forest park), I was visiting a friend in Chesterfield. Daughter’s h.s. friends from the burbs (Catholic school girl) refer to it as the 'hood - they can walk to the Loop from here. I prefer the reference to our neighborhood being called the “Catholic ghetto” -
Ballwin, huh? Kudos for the new ordinance to slaughter the damn Canadian geese - please kill a few of those fuckers that are ruining the CCLake path while you’re at it.
First concert - Cheap Trick and Molly Hatchet - Indy

Chicks are all about sensitive acoustic guitar. Dudes are all about mastubatory wank-shredfests (see Yngwie Malmsteen). Gotta have both
