Those that have switched from Garmin to Coros

Are you happy? My 945 is dying and I really cant stomach the 965 price. It’s kind of ridiculous.

I see I could import all my activities into their platform.

Pro? Cons?

I would imagine there will soon be some deals on the 965 as its successor should be released spring 2025 if Garmin stays on schedule. Plus Black Friday Cyber Monday will be here soon.

I thought of that too…maybe it comes down to 399…maybe but probably not.

Another option is to call Garmin and let them know of your issues with the 945. They should offer you a decent deal on a 965.

I can get the 945 refurb but nothing on the 965.

I switched. Once my garmin screen delamed and the company said I can mail it back and pay something like $200 for a refurbished watch - it soured me. It was their product defect so they should make it right but they did not.

I went to Coros and I like it much better. Its MUCH lighter and a little smaller than the 965. It does the same functionality - only thing I dislike is that it doesnt estimate total days calorie burn - just active calories. It connects to GPS instantly, where Garmin had some trouble sometimes depending where I was.

I would recomend.

I’ve had a few athletes switch. All of them favor the Coros over the Garmin.

I’m texting with one athlete right now about something else and asked her her thoughts. She said Coros lower price point & more features, faster satellite connection, lighter, slimmer on her wrist. IDK which Coros she has it’s white if that helps.

Hope that helps

I made the switch a few years ago for a watch way lighter then any Garmin for WAY less, and best battery life out there. I have never looked back. For $200 their PACE3 I think beats most of the Garmin Lineup . The New Vertix2s does it all. Another plus is they are constant adding features and listening to their customers. Worth a look. Plus they always have Out OF Box sales ( bottom of webpage) to save a little. App is excellent and includes a route maker too.

No brainer. Unless you have SPECIFIC function requirement that only Garmin provides, COROS is better in most respects. Value, features (particularly batter life), ecosystem, etc. Aesthetics is up to personal preference. I’ve had Polar, Suunto, and Garmin and now that I’m on COROS, I’ve never had one moment where I thought “I wish I was still on [ ]”. Except the old Suunto display that was black with LED? font that I could see in any light conditions.

I switched to the Coros Pace 2 last year and I am happy with the switch. I won’t say it’s a game changer but paying $200 vs $500 for pretty much the same thing feels good to me.

I do notice a few bugs in the Coros but Garmin also had problems for me. For example the Coros swim feature is less customizable. You can’t change the lap screens during the rest period which is dumb because that’s the time you look at your watch. However, both “top of the line” Garmin watches I’ve had have stopped working correctly by the time I used it for a year. One of them only counted swim laps if I turned it on and off before starting the swim activity. The other’s elevation was crap no matter how many resets and cleanings I did.

If I had to do it again I would buy the Coros. If you are looking for a simple GPS that does swim, bike and run then its Coros.

The only problem i see is lack of ant+ support. For just running not a problem, but some power meters seem to be ant+ only or csnt use both bluetotoh pwr and hr.

I came back to the Garmin.
You have much more customization options with the Garmin that Coros didn’t offer in terms of your home screen. For example and most important to me, I can place UTC time on my home screen, where I didn’t have that option on the Coros. In terms of performance they were similiar, but again, more custom options on the Garmin that were valuable to me once stopped training and go to work.

I have a Coros Pace 3. It’s great - so light and much less expensive.

Lack of ant+ could make a difference for me.

Something not mentioned so far: how is Coros at its core function compared to Garmin 965? (GPS accuracy)

I find the GPS accuracy to be similar with one minor issue. The peak speed on my Coros is less accurate. On a downhill that I know I top out at 40 mph my Coros will say I hit 47 mph for a split second. On the speed analysis it shows the same inconsistencies. However the avg speed is always accurate as it evens out.

Over the last ~10 years I’ve gone Suunto->Garmin->Coros->2nd Coros, so, yeah. Prefer Coros of the 3. The only thing I don’t like it for is running track/intervals. Possible there’s a way to maximize for that, but the other things I do are dead simple.
