Apparently, there is a type of fungus that kills 99% of bananas. So the nerds are doing some DNA editing to make the nanners resistant to the fungus. Its just crazy how 20 years ago, bananas could have been lost.
All those people who refuse to eat GM foods may have to rethink if they want to eat a banana again, including the EU.
The Gros Michel Banana, which is said to be a better tasting banana, is commercially extinct due to a fungus. I wonder if they can bring that back instead of the Cavendish?

There would be a pretty decent economic impact because it is so widely used, but if they can’t save the Cavendish we would be able to switch to another variety. You’d think the Irish would have taught us to avoid a monoculture in a staple food.
