Because as soon as you find a shoe they make that you like, they change it?
They already changed the new Kayano…less support, now this one!!! no good…
In my experience, Asics shoes are overengineered, overpriced, pain inducing garbage.

Coke vs Pepsi sort of thing. I started with Asics and now will only wear Zoots…everyone has their own favorite flavor.
I normally love yellow shoes (have 4 pairs), but those are the ugliest little bumblebee shoes I’ve ever seen.
Meh
.
Having gone through the last 3 good iterations of the DS trainer I was this close to bailing and springing for some Noosas. And then this shoe came out. And I’m just as perplexed. These are ugly as hell but it looks like they got rid of all the shit that cocked up the most recent versions. Maybe the Noosa will get an update too?
Looks like a prison inmate shoe.
I’d like to see Asics do something innovative, or at least updated, with their cushioning (how old is GEL?)…I think we’ve learned a bit about shoes in the last 20 years.

Asics DS Trainers have gotten steadily worse.
Actually, they got dramatically worse after the 15. The 16 and 17 are miserable excuses for shoes.
Now the Hyperspeed; that’s a great shoe. And I have yet to try the current iteration of DS Racer.
If you want a really good shoe, try the Mizuno Elixir 7.
i’ve been wearing asics racers & lightweight trainers since 1991 so i’m a big fan but GAWD are those ugly!!!
I don’t run in Asics, but watched a doco about Asics making running shoes several years ago. As opposed to Nike (another doco), Asics designs shoes for running, not just looking pretty.
Asics spends a ton of time developing and testing their shoes and the number of parts and processes involved is incredible. I no longer complain about the price of running shoes.
In the Nike doco, they highlighted one guy who they hired. He was an ARCHITECT, that designed buildings. Pretty buildings for sure, but buildings! He had NO experience with shoes, NO experience running and only went to the factory to see what pretty parts he could tell people to put together. Then there were “focus groups” to see which pretty shoe they’d buy. Made me want to cry.
I have experienced this. I started training for tris with the Asics 1140, and it was the perfect shoe for my feet. When I were that pair, I felt as though my feet were being kissed! Of course, the next year, it was replaced by the 1150. Still a good shoe for me, but it fell a smidgen short of the otherworldly comfort of the 1140. I’m on the 1170’s now, and they still suit me well enough. But I still regret that the 1140, my first love in running shoes, was phased out.
I understand the reason why they make the best shoes is due to a guy named Terry Schallow. Correct?

I like this fanboyism
Go team SAUCONY!
I found the 16’s to be “ok” but wished that had more bounce in the forefoot.
im really looking forward to this to go with my typea5 and kinvara3s

i love my kruuz but jumping on the saucony train. doing good things. lego saucony!
hyperspeed is a great shoe. enough support to train in if light and have good form. sadly since its a racing shoe and not meant for daily mileage, it wore out really quickly but i did really like it. not a big fan of the gel ds racer. got some saucony kinvaras to go with it for training and enjoying the latter much more.
My own unscientific opinion from the Asics shoes that I’ve owned is that their shoes appear to me to be better constructed than most other shoes I’ve used.
I always seem to get more milage from their shoes than others. That’s not always a good thing as sometimes they take longer for me to break in. Those extra 50-80 miles in the beginning (every day shoes) kind of stink for me when I can get another brand that I can break in with 25 miles.
As for the DS Trainer, that shoe is too overbuilt for what they market it for. I don’t consider a 10oz shoe a lightweight trainer when the Mizuno Rider is only a half ounce heaver. I do think the newer shoe is cool looking though.

I used to love the DS Trainer, and ran almost totally in Asics until I discovered lower drop shoes and switched to Inov-8. Now I rotate between Inov-8, NB minimus and Saucony Grid A-4.
Still though, to each their own shoes are like religion and politics.
