This Guy's a Victim? You're Kidding, Right?

To be a “Bolivian Socialist” doesn’t it help to be um, Bolivian?

That’s not necessary. But it does help to have a tin ear for economics.

Oooooh. That’s a good one, professore.

Interesting, every description prior to this thread I’ve ever read about the political views of Minneapolis and St. Paul is that St. Paul is the blue collar, working class, conservative/GOP twin to the white collar, upper middle class and above liberal/Democratic Minneapolis.

Which is how my uncle who has lived there for 2.5 decades describes it (from his very upper income house in Minneapolis, as a very very conservative GOP guy). Obviously there are pockets of not fitting the profile everywhere, but the above has always been my view of the twin cities.

Isn’t Bachmann the St. Paul rep?

Looks like I’ve been lied to: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Minnesota’s_congressional_districts

You and tridiot know your Twin Cities, that’s for sure. Stillwater via Waterloo, Iowa, for Bachmann, I think.

i have lived here on and off for 23 years! im in cottage grove now, quite a bit quieter, more open space and apparently a lot of runners/ cyclists and triathletes. i love it.

that property taxes had been paid in full this year and the remaining balance on their mortgage for the half-million dollar home is less than one year’s worth of tuition+fees at their son’s law school.

The nail in this empty protest‘s coffin is a delightful phone conversation I just had with Robert’s mother, Marquita, where she admitted Chase Bank indeed was not “taking” their home from them. Instead, due to a recent “reduction in income,” they’ve decided to hold a “short sale.”

Slightly off topic, but why would you have a “Short sale” on a home that is 500K when you only owe 75-100K on it?

Am I missing something?

Good question. I thought the same thing when I saw it. Something doesn’t add up.

I’m wondering if all of those words being in quotes means the author was doing what I do all the time and he’s not really using them by their standard definition.

“Short sale” meaning, not a short sale at all but they are simply downsizing.

I envy you. I miss the Northwest campus up at Eagan and the surrounding areas. They used to put me up in nice hotels in the two downtowns whenever I had extended business there and I spent several months holed up in one of the executive suite places off Pilot Knob Road. Now, I’m here in Metro Detroit, which is cool because the Big D’s where I was born and raised until I hit 18 and could get the hell outta Dodge, but which kind of blows a little because the roads suck, there are no real hills in the Downriver area and the city just earned the dubious distinction of probably being named America’s most dangerous city by Forbes magazine:

http://realestate.yahoo.com/promo/americas-most-dangerous-cities-2011.html

Nearly a murder a day and several spasms of multiple murder sprees are a regular occurrence here, it seems. The only thing keeping me here are my dad and my mom (they’re getting up in the years and don’t want to move from the small Downriver suburb they live in). Once they’ve departed this mortal coil it’s back to Hawaii for me on a permanent basis.

It is pretty. Im gettin tired of the long winters though. Next time youre in the area send me a pm and we can grab a beer and discus politics  or something less contentious like clinchers vs tubular.
