Thinner crankset for Garmin vector chain clearance

Hi all,

I want to swap my Shimano 105 standard cranks for a compact or sub compact on my 2015 bmc tm02. I also am hoping that the new set would have thinner cranks than the 105 set since the 105 set doesn’t quite meet the requirements of my Garmin vectors that the chain clearance of the set be 5mm. As a result I cannot confidently get into the 53x11. Anyone had a similar problem with the vectors and found a suitable crankset?

I run SRAM force with my Garmin’s and no problem
.

I run my chain closer than 5mm and have never had an issue.

I do run my chains quite tight (not much slack) on all my bikes if this has a bearing.

How close are you talking ?

honestly, its probably about 4.5mm when I’m in the 53x11 so its just barely too little. that being said, the vector when its on the pedal has about .5mm of clearance vs the chain but the thing i’m worried about is that the tolerance is so tight that it could flop around over bumps or whatever. in your experience it has not presented any problems? i’m guessing that the way that the pod cords are oriented may help prevent “catching?”

I haven’t got it to hand at the moment but I think it’s way closer than that !

I used enough washers to pull the plug right in to the back of the crankarm (Sram Red) and it’s never given me a problem.

Like I said previously I do run my chains tightish.

Have you tried riding it - or tried it on the turbo ? I would have thought you’d be fine …

LG.

DA9000 clearance ~1mm and no issues rubbing after 2 years. Keep the front derailleur properly spaced. Chain about .5mm from the front derailleur in 53/11. Zero worries on my end with this spacing.

Not sure if you can achieve this on the 105 setup. My google-fu is weak as I can’t find the 105 arm width.

Thanks! and that is with the BMC TM02?

Have you tried fitting a couple of extra washers on the pedal spindle (I think you fit the special Vector 2 laser cut one first iirc) to try and bring the plug further in on the chain side ? If you look at the installation instructions it tells you what to do.

I think my chain is similar to that but I definitely managed to get the plug to sit more flush with the back of the crank arm using the washers.
