I remember taking the Dive PT test several times at the Academy. It sucked. Everything is timed, from the amount of warmup time you get, to how much time you have to do each exercise, to how much time you have in between to rest and get your clothes on. Not a lot of fun putting on boots and pants after you swim, but a mile and a half isn’t a long run. It just feels long after everything else. The worst part, I thought, was that the sit-ups tend to tire out your hip flexors, and the pull-ups tire out your biceps, so your arms feel heavy while you’re running. That said, I did well on the test back then. Lots of gymnastics made the sit-ups, push-ups and especially pull-ups pretty easy. A decade or so later, I’m not so sure. I’d guess that for a triathlete, the hardest parts would be the sit-ups and push-ups, because I don’t get the feeling many triathletes do that stuff much. Also, swimming sidestroke is weird if you don’t do it a lot.
