Heading to Oceanside with the family. Will have a rental car. What would you suggest to do within a 3 hour drive?
Thank you for any tips.
3 hr drive from oceanside can get you to a lot of places. family stuff would be like the san diego zoo or wild animal park. los angeles is only about 2 hrs away so there’s all the theme parks up that way like disneyland, knotts berry farm, etc.
That 3 hours could be anything from Venice Beach in LA to the US/Mexican boarder. There’s always Disneyland, Knotts Berry Farm, Venice Beach is free and entertaining. Sea World in San Diego as well as the zoo. Lego
And if you have small kids. Actually, it’s pretty wide open.
Lego land, sea world, Mexico, magic moutain, Catalina islands , universal studios, museums
.
Zoo’s great (happen to be a zoo member…the baby panda is on exhibit at the zoo from 9-noon),
safari park (they do charge for parking)
.
Disneyland (my hometown),
is about 1.5 hrs from Oceanside, maybe less depending on traffic, but expensive, beware the deals on single day use of multi-day tickets as they are taking pictures of people now for these tickets. And Cars Land at the California Adventure park can get quite crowded.
I hear legoland is good, but have never been there. There are some City Pass deals that get you admission to multiple amusements in the area at something of a discount.
Alpine for the pie (and the drive to get there)
The obvious: the beaches.
Sea World if its anywhere close to warm (which it usually is)
If the family is older: Gaslamp. Mmmmm beers! Dick’s Last Resort is usually a good time.
If you’re into golfing: Torrey Pines. If you’re into nude beaches: Black’s Beach.
There’s an absolute boatload of breweries and brewpubs in Sandy Eggo. Start with Stone and work your way around.
