Things I think I think

The church needs to stay out of government & quit trying to govern our morality thru politicians.

Rick Santorum, Tom DeLay, Sam Brownback & the rest of the extreme right are bad for the country.

Nancy Pelosi, Charlie Randell, and the rest of the extreme left are pretty bad as well.

Howard Dean would be fun to go drinking with. I don’t think you can say that about the head of the Republican party (when is he coming out of the closet anyway?).

Prayer does not belong in public schools. If students want to have a prayer group, so be it; that is what after-school is for. If administrators/teachers want to have a prayer group, they should go teach/work in the private sector.

Anyone who believes that gays shouldn’t be allowed to have legal unions & be afforded the same rights as married couples is living in the 17th century. Listening to their moral arguments against these unions is fall-down-on-the-floor-funny.

Anyone who follows scripture verbatim as their action-plan for living probably doesn’t have many original thoughts. Probably doesn’t do too well in life either.

I’m pretty much pro-choice: the government has absolutely no right to tell someone what they can & can’t do with their body. However I agree with David Brooks that RvW is tearing apart the political system. I blame the right for this.

What I or anyone else does in the privacy of their bedroom with another consenting adult is absolutely none of our government’s business. Any politician who thinks it is should be ridden out on a rail.

I’m pretty sure the majority of the politicians don’t give a damn about anything other than getting & keeping power. Those few “on a mission” tend to be the scariest.

The right-wing’s actions on stem-cell research and “right to die” legislations will not go down as one of our country’s finest moments.

I don’t have a problem with faith & religion per se; it is the corrupt & backward institution of the church that causes the most damage (but admittedly also does the most good).

The NRA is not good for America.

Anyone who thinks we are winning any type of war on drugs understands nothing about human behavior.

Pot should be legalized: compared to alcohol it is harmless.

Dealers in heroin, crack, PCP, crystal-meth and similar destructive drugs should be taken out back & shot. Until they are, all BS about a war on drugs is just that. Legalize it, tax it, and get over it.

I have no problem building more prisons, however why can’t they be somewhat self-sustainable? I’m all for chain-gangs.

The cigarette settlement debacle just proves how corrupt government is.

Cigarettes should be banned, or taxed so that if you smoke, you are paying in advance for the cost of the care required to keep you alive after you get cancer.

I automatically deduct about 50 IQ points from anyone I see smoking. I think I’m being generous.

Why are so many smokers fat? Is it because they can’t read the ingredient/calorie counts on the back of the Oreos bag?

I truly believe that history is going to judge the comments/beliefs espoused by Rush Limbaugh, Ann Coulter, Sean Hannity and Michael Savage very harshly. They pander to those who just aren’t smart enough to think for themselves. They bring out the worst in human nature.

We have no business drilling in ANWAR. If our government was serious about getting off foreign oil, in the ten years that it will take to get any juice out of there, we could have refined existing technologies so that alternative fuels would be viable.

I assuage my guilt over driving a gas guzzling V8 SUV by donating 10x my fuel bill every year to the Sierra Club. Helps me sleep better. Still don’t think its enough. Do love that Porsche Turbo though.

It would be fine with me if we taxed gas to $10.00 p.g. and $5.00 of every gallon went to protect the environment and fund education.

Politicians don’t seem to have a very good sense of humor. Most of them don’t seem all that bright either.

Not all conservatives are stupid, but most stupid people seem to become Republicans.

I’m all for the death penalty, though I think DNA (as applicable) should be a mandate. If there is DNA evidence, than speed up the execution. Making it public probably wouldn’t hurt either……though taking away handguns would do more to curbing murders than the death sentence ever will.

Our schools are reportedly a mess. That may or may not be true—all I know is that compared to when I was in school 20 years ago, the students have MUCH more homework, and the scores/competition to get into college have gotten MUCH harder.

Poachers of tigers, elephant horns, rhino horns, and fisherman who harvest shark fins should all be dealt with the same as drug dealers. Nothing against the Asian culture and their beliefs, but their wants are destroying some of the world’s greatest creatures.

Rush & the rest who think its our god-given right to use up all of our natural resources however-we-see-fit, without consequence, are seriously delusional….not to mention dangerous.

Anyone who takes a celebrity seriously probably smokes and has a corresponding IQ to boot.

Americans who read US Weekly, People Magazine, National Enquirer, or watch Entertainment Tonight or Access Hollywood should be ashamed of themselves.

I wish there was a viable third party in American politics. Current system just isn’t sustainable. Then again I think that 99% of Americans don’t give a damn, they just want to eat McDonalds & watch Cinemax.

I have no problem with 2+ years of mandatory military/community service upon graduating high-school.

I don’t mind paying taxes. Price of admission. If history is any indicator, if I pay more taxes this year it means I made more money. How is that a bad thing?

We are all part of a society; being part of such a group affords you opportunities as well as compromises. Take advantage of the opportunities & live with the compromises.

People who bitch about how much tax they pay are selfish & probably aren’t taking advantages of all the opportunities afforded us.

Most Californians don’t have the right to bitch about anything. Our property taxes are stupidly low, we have gardeners and housekeepers that cost next to nothing, the weather is stupidly nice, and the overall standard of living + opportunities are better than just about anywhere else. Why all of our politicians are idiots is another matter.

Why does it seem that everyone in the Midwest is fat? Las Vegas & Orlando Florida are also filled with large amounts of corpulence……or are there just a lot of vacationing Midwesterners there?

Democrats aren’t very good at playing dirty politics. Republicans are very, very good.

Bush is an absolute disaster on environmental policies. Rove & Co. are geniuses at framing the argument so that the average American doesn’t get it.

The average American isn’t very bright. Long-term thinking, or the big-picture, isn’t what they are about. I think most politicians prefer it this way.

9-11 happened because we weren’t paying attention. From everything I’ve seen since, not much has improved, though flying is more of a PITA than ever.

Why didn’t anyone get fired for 9-11 incompetence?

The next one is likely to be much, much worse and will likely come about because our government bowed to either the chemical or nuclear industry & didn’t force them to take the adequate necessary measures. By the time everything is figured out, nobody will give a damn. It is how politicians like it.

Democrats need to get over 2000. Republicans need to get over Clinton.

I don’t know if the modern media is bad for America’s youth, but they certainly do seem to grow up faster than 20 years ago.

Television seems to have gotten better over the years, in that there are more quality programs available due to cable/satellite. Books have gotten worse though. Probably not a good thing.

I don’t think anyone has ever changed their opinion about anything they’ve “discussed” on an internet billboard insofar as politics, religion or money is concerned. Then again the same goes for bars, golf courses and BBQs.

I love my wife; can’t stand the in-laws though.

Anyone who follows scripture verbatim as their action-plan for living probably doesn’t have many original thoughts.

That’s pretty funny, considering there wasn’t an original thought in that entire post.
.

I agree on many of your points, but way waste your time preaching to the choir.

Vitus,

Yer a sheep. Baaaaaa.Baaaaaaa.

Still bitter about those water rights eh?

Lets theorize what Vitus’ thoughts are:

Rush is right. I’m a ditto head & proud of it.

Premarital sex is bad. Church says so so it must be true.

Why do I get that same feeling as when I climbed the rope back in Jr High Gym whenever I think of Rick Santorum?

God I hope my boss doesn’t fire me.

God I hate my life.

Still bitter about being a dipshit eh?

Yer a sheep.

Yeah, well that’s fine with me. My Shepherd is top notch.

Lets theorize what Vitus’ thoughts are: Right, because I don’t post here enough to really know.

**Rush is right. I’m a ditto head & proud of it. **Bzzzt.

Premarital sex is bad. Church says so so it must be true. Bingo. (Well, cause the Church says so, and because of all the obvious pain and suffering caused by promiscuity.)

Why do I get that same feeling as when I climbed the rope back in Jr High Gym whenever I think of Rick Santorum? Bzzzzt.

**God I hope my boss doesn’t fire me. **Bzzzzzt.

God I hate my life. Bzzzzt.

“Anyone who believes that gays shouldn’t be allowed to have legal unions & be afforded the same rights as married couples is living in the 17th century. Listening to their moral arguments against these unions is fall-down-on-the-floor-funny.”

Hmmm since I don’t place my opinion on morality where does that leave me? Not only should gays not have special “marital rights” neither should hetero sexuals.

"We have no business drilling in ANWAR. If our government was serious about getting off foreign oil, in the ten years that it will take to get any juice out of there, we could have refined existing technologies so that alternative fuels would be viable.

If you have so much damn money, why not invest in alternate fuel youself instead of depending on the government to deliver one to you?

“Why does it seem that everyone in the Midwest is fat?”

We have shitty weather 10 out 12 months, no beaches, thus no reason to wear anything other than jeans and a T-shirt. We have Miller Beer, Budweiser, bratts and alot of cheese…make more sense now?

“The next one is likely to be much, much worse…”

So far you’ve been fairly quick to rip on everyone for not “figuring it out”. If it so easy why don’t you name the next target?

“I don’t know if the modern media is bad for America’s youth, but they certainly do seem to grow up faster than 20 years ago.”

I have the tendency to believe the media is not to blame as much as the parents. The parents buy the cloths, cars, and allow the kids to watch, read, listen too whatver they want. Parents stop buying the cloths, or quite giving the money to the kids to buy the cloths and the cloths go away. Same principles apply to most everything.

“I don’t think anyone has ever changed their opinion about anything they’ve “discussed” on an internet billboard insofar as politics, religion or money is concerned.”

I know I have. The fact that you belive no one else has appears to point to the fact that your fairly closed minded and unwilling to change.

Shepard?

OK… curious, which is it? Capenter or Shepard…

At last look, it seems biblical historians seem to indicate a probability of - stone mason being the actual answer… ah well, {shrugging shoulders} …I guess every religion has to have it’s fables blended in faith.

Joe Moya

Oh where to begin. I’m hoping your post was intended to be funny or just a troll, 'cuz if you truly believe all of that and that’s the way you thought process works I hope you’re not in a position of influence. So I’ll give you the benefit of the doubt and just enjoy it as a bit of comedy.

biblical historians seem to indicate a probability of - stone mason being the actual answer

Where’d you get that from?

Discovery channel or TLC (can remember which) …from what I remember…

It seems the area where JC grew up was predominately a stone-work productive region… they were the primary providers of stone work for the local temples… the interpretation of the term - carpenter was incorrect. And, in fact… the original term used to describe JC’s occupation was actually a generic term for builder… it never referenced what kind of builder.

Therefore, if you look at the region where JC grew up… the archeologist find stone work as the region predominate output to be stone (common for that period for villages to have very specific occupations common to all occupants). As a result, it very likely that JC had a profession as a builder who used stone… and, not a carpenter (which we now associate with wood building occupation).

FWIW Joe Moya

As a sidenote: They also mentioned that (using the bible’s description of JC’s birth as a reference) JC was most likely born in the Summer months - not the winter as we currently celebrate.

The intolerance and distaste you have for those who don’t share your viewpoint is disgusting.

You claim to be so open and forgiving out of one corner of your mouth but out of the other you spew hate and condemnation.

Anyone taking the time to debate his discussion points is wasting their time.

Pot should be legalized: compared to alcohol it is harmless.

The cigarette settlement debacle just proves how corrupt government is.

Cigarettes should be banned, or taxed so that if you smoke, you are paying in advance for the cost of the care required to keep you alive after you get cancer.

Why are so many smokers fat? Is it because they can’t read the ingredient/calorie counts on the back of the Oreos bag?

Pot legalized and tobbacco banned??? How about alcohol?? Do you subtract 50 IQ points from someone who smokes pot??? Cigarettes are heavily taxed – but they like to use the money on pork and not healthcare. It is easy to pass a “sin” tax – tobbacco, alcohol etc. Then they cut funding on the environment and say "We need a gas tax to save the environment. Then they cut funding to Education and say “Our children need help - they deserve a top notch education - we need to raise your taxes” – and they they parade out the sick and elderly “We need Heathcare – raise taxes again” – all while lining thier pockets, awarding sweetheart deals to thier family and friends and buying votes to ensure they stay in power. And what do we get for it – a blithering idiot who copies some worthless crap copied from some other idiot who continues to vote the same people in year after year. Anyone who takes a celebrity seriously probably smokes and has a corresponding IQ to boot.
And I bet a “celebrity” like Bill Mahr wrote this…

If either of you are in OC I will by you a drink since there is nothing we agree on we can explore the limits of opposite.

I just lost 5 IQ points reading that crap!

Considering what I have to work with it’s a lot
.

Hmmm since I don’t place my opinion on morality where does that leave me? Not only should gays not have special “marital rights” neither should hetero sexuals.

But since (married couples) do receive certain benefits (tax + insurance + legal) in our society, gay couples should be afforded those same rights.

If you have so much damn money, why not invest in alternate fuel youself instead of depending on the government to deliver one to you?

I do–my delivery trucks use biodiesel, and my house is mainly solar powered. That being said, our reliance on foreign oil is a big part of the problem we as a country face, both economically & security-wise. Getting us off our reliance for oil should be a national priority.

So far you’ve been fairly quick to rip on everyone for not “figuring it out”. If it so easy why don’t you name the next target?

One of my best friends is a detective with the LA police’s Fugitive & Warrants division–he is currently working closely with the US Marshals on some terrorist related stuff. Anyway, the common consensus from him & his “contacts” are that it will be one of three targets on the West Coast: LAX (they already tried & missed, and they tend to keep trying till they get it right), and either port of LA or Oakland. Either of the port attacks would be devastating to our economy–much, much worse than 9/11. I can’t/won’t publish their top 3 scenarios in detail, but any of them would pretty much wipe out the ports, crippling all asian shipping into the US. The sad part is how technically easy one of the scenarios would be–almost no way to stop it & it would take out roughly 5 square miles of Long Beach/San Pedro. East Coast–I have no idea. Probably a port as that would inflict the most economic damage.

The fact that you belive no one else has appears to point to the fact that your fairly closed minded and unwilling to change.

Or nobody has posted a sufficiently intelligent argument to counter my beliefs.
