Things are getting ugly

My goodness, do they not have even a basic disaster recovery plan down there?

Homeland Security is screwed up.

FEMA was put under Homeland Security a few years back. Almost all their planning and resources went into terrorism planning, and not disaster planning. As we know know, Homeland Security is a complete and total joke and disaster. The fact of the matter is they don’t really have a plan.

The Federal Government is going to have to do a lot of explaining.

A thin line between civilization and anarchy isn’t there?

I don’t know about anyone else but my TV set was telling me a week ago that a catastrophe of biblical proportions was bearing down on New Orleans…and the President is only now saying “help is on the way”

Yeah, his apologists will accuse me of being a partisan hack, what is new? Where is the Government? Why were we not better prepared for this??

The right wing talking heads on our TV screens are barking about lawlessness and looting…DUH…there is no law. No National Guard, no FEMA, no state agencies, NO FOOD WATER OR SANITATION. Of course people are taking matters into their own hands. For most of them its a matter of life or death.

They have lost what little they own and Bill O’Reilly wants to start shooting them.

Nice.

This wouldn’t be an issue if people had left like they were told.

It’s horrible but people need to listen and understand that you can’t stop a wall of water.

Actually, I kinda agree with you on this one. However, I don’t think it rests with the Feds…Everybody involved right down to the city counsel, hospitals, fire and police should be chewed a new ass.

I don’t think so. I think the people who are working are overwhelmed and they don’t have any support system either. At least with 9/11 the workers had a place to go to eat, sleep, etc. I had heard reports about using cruise lines to house some people. If they can do that why not just get some barges or cargo ships to pick these people up and at least transport them some place where there is water, sewer, food and shelter? Evacuating people by bus will take forever.

It’s a great idea regarding the barges and cruise ships but there isn’t a way to get the boats to a port close enough to put the people on…they were destroyed by the storm.

I don’t understand why it takes days to restore radio communication. Isn’t there supposed to be mobile communications available for disasters? It seems kind of silly in this technological age not being able to get radio communications up. It’s like we’ve learned nothing from 911.

This wouldn’t be an issue if people had left like they were told.

It’s horrible but people need to listen and understand that you can’t stop a wall of water.

Kinda hard to leave if you can’t afford plane tickets for your family, if you don’t own a car, if you have nowhere to go to.

These are the people you are seeing on your TV screens. New Orleans’ poor.

Jesus would blame them too.

Well, most if not all of New Orleans is under water. How do you suggest that radio communication be restored?

People. . . PLEASE. The city is underwater. It’s called a natural DISASTER for a reason.

Don’t have the energy to leave the city but have plenty of energy to steal tv’s, shoes, and whatever else they can get their hands on…

SCUBA Radio?

Some radio stations are still on the air and they are trying to disperse information via those stations, however, it’s difficult when people don’t have many working radios or electricity to run them.

I’m not talking about public communications, the police haven’t been able to use their radios effectively at all. It’s like there was absolutely no disaster planning for communications at all.

The city is under water. How can you restore electricity when it’s flooded?

The government’s response (federal, especially) has been shameful. It really does appear there was no plan. This was predictable. There is no way to completely evacuate a city as large as New Orleans – there will always be the poor, the elderly, the disabled, and (yes) the stupid. After this, I have lost confidence that our government will be able to react appropriately in the event of a large scale terrorist attack.

No no one is in control, the world is coming to the end. All those in power have no idea what to do and are sitting on their hands doing nothing.

People are really looking for doom and gloom these days aren’t they?

We have a disaster here people. This will take time to recover from. As with all things in the realm of “disaster” there are unaccounted for circumstances…other wise it just be another “event”.

We can not expect our officials to perform miracles or prevent every disaster or possible circumstance. When disaster strikes in many cases we are more dependant on ourselves than at any other time.

People have died and will continue to do so. It’s tradgedy. So instead of everyone sitting around and creating more hysteria why not figure out a way to make it better. I’d bet there aren’t a whole lot of things we can come up with, if any, that haven’t already been brought up and or being done. Well unless you really are buying into the BS that “Nothing is being done”.

Radio communications can be restored through mobile communications centers. The military use them and can set them up in hours if not minutes. It doesn’t take days to deploy them.

There isn’t a dry place to put them. The city is flooded.
