Therapeutic Use Exemptions - TUE and KONA

I was filling the Kona registration this morning, and it asked for any therapeutic drug one is taking. Of course I filled with Insulin, but I have no legal document apart from blood exams to prove I have diabetes and need to use insulin to live.

I´ve heard about getting a “TUE”.How do I get one? Are they event specific or every governing body/sports organization asks for a different one? Even though I´m not really fit enough to win this Kona thing, I´m worried they might do a random doping test and insulin shows up. Would it be a nightmare to prove otherwise?Could I just drink a coke and do a blood glucose test 5 minutes later?Brent L.? Any other doctors?

I got one from the ITU for World Long Distance Champs. I’d apply for one from your country’s governing tri body, or maybe just email Kona and see what they say. It would be a hassle having to get one for every event.

Also not sure how insulin would show up as it is a naturally occuring substance altho I guess they might be able to detect the presence of artifically made insulin? (ie GE insulin…don’t think anyone uses animal insulin anymore do they?)
