The X-Vest - any training value

A coach who no longer coached me recommended I get one. I got it and did a few runs in it but not many. So it is just gathering dust.

Can anyone advise me if it has any training value and if so, how I can utilize it?

This is the one I have:

Other than adding weight, it also restricts your breathing.

Warning: Please don’t try advising me to swim in it. I learned my lesson the first time I fell for that.

I’d be very careful running in it. Our joints aren’t designed to be carrying a bunch of weight while running outside of our body weight.

Very rarely do I say anything is bad for everyone, so I’m sure there would be an appropriate use for this vest, and you might be that one, but I know my joints wouldn’t be pleased with me if I tried running in it.

Personally, I’ll say that I think there would be little benefit, and the risk associated with that benefit probably isn’t worth it for most people.

That’s my conclusion -partially -as well.

When I was prompted to get it, it was to help with economy during track workouts. What we wound up doing with it was wearing it with just a little extra weight (8-12 LBS + the weight of the vest, about 2 lbs) and doing 10k x 2 in it or shorter runs around zone 2 or LT.

I have a few buds that use a weight vest, but it is this one: www.weightvest.com

This company makes one specifically for running and it comes with 20 pounds of weight.

I tried it a couple of times on the same course you run the superfrog on…its a butt whipper in that sand.

might be good for cycling.

running…i feel for your joints. if you were doing 40m sprints, maybe. but distance…you’re crazy.

stair workouts maybe?

my old boss would just commute in with it on and walk around the shop with it. never any actual training rides/runs. and I agree with one of the other posters… don’t run with it on your joints really can’t tolerate that.
