"The Worst Beating of Your Life" - Barkley Marathon ultra (article)

A vicious 100 mile off road run, first I have heard of it.
Sounds almost as much adventure race as ultra marathon, with it’s old school style and course/weather conditions.

There is an interesting compilation of people’s ultramarathoning stories in the book Running Through the Wall. Two people who have completed Barkley wrote their stories in it, inspiring stuff.

In the Barkley isn’;t two people who have finished pretty much most of the finishers?

Yes

Sounds like an E&E exercise…except you get to stop every 20miles and have a break.

I like the title of this thread. I think I will use it when I do my report on the ST Whiteface hillclimb later this summer to describe what I do to Dev;)

David Horton and Blake Wood are the runners who wrote essays on their experiences there. I did not know, apparently they were disqualified after finishing for missing 200 yards of the route. Tough stuff.

That is one harsh DQ. Damn.

The official record may show a DQ, but probably doesn’t lessen the respect these 2 get from other runners. And, of course Horton and Wood know what they accomplished.
