The useless bolt on the Cervelo P3 frame, given purpose

The Cervelo P3 has a fixing bolt on the frame that seems to be totally useless.
I read that it was for aero bottles etc, but I cant find anyone who manufactures a product that utilises that bolt.
So I gave it purpose as an elastic band hook for the right shoe. (yes, I’m bored today)

Step one,
Find a crimp connector with the right diameter hole for the mount bolt

Step two,
Cut the end off

Step three,
Bend it 90 degrees

Step four,
Bolt it on, job done

Shave - will save more seconds than shoe mod
.

For a sprint race?

I already gave it a purpose

Oh wow! Is that something you bought or modified? I’ve never seen that before

Zach - how hard was this to do? Had same set up on my slice, but was hit by a car and getting a P2 sorted for IMC in 2 weeks and need a flat storage solution.

Exceptional work.

Zach, I always forget to ask…what size frame is that?

I feel as though you’re running the risk of it falling foul of your drivetrain.

I usually attach the loop of my left shoe to the chainstay/seatstay junction area. Much less stuff for it to get caught up in.

I heavily modified a torhans vr. No clue if it worKS with larger or smaller sizes.

Thanks - I never get tired of seeing that bike. Give me a heads-up if you’re coming this way!

Not hard. Just need to be patient and careful. Cut off the bottle holder on bottom, then mold away. Molded in a bottom plate to attach to the bottom bolt for security. Has held strong over several rides on bumpy roads. Don’t use it every day though

I head out to work in San Diego about twice a year. Was already planning on contacting you when I’m done there next. (You are in that area right…)

so you’ve never done anything longer than a sprint? or you did the mod solely for a sprint but wouldn’t use it in a oly

I was being slightly facetious but none the less more watts and time saved with shaving over 40k than putting shoes on - or at the least the same again…

Carson/LA - 1.5 to 2 hours north. Give me a few weeks notice and we’ll get you in. Right now we’re booked to late August, but that’s mostly due to lack of track availability, which is not typical. Lots of Nat’l level races on the track and the Crossfit Games using up facility time (yep, you read that right, the Crossfit Games take over the entire Stubhub Center for the better part of a week).

If you’re willing, I think it would be a really cool feature to show folks what attention to detail, and a little ingenuity, can do for an athlete. Fun stuff.

I detected a little facetiousness

I’ll shave my legs and clip my shoes in  double win

Sweet - that makes sense. Held by the bottom bolt alone?

I was talking to Trevor Wurtele about his bottle modification too - just using the bottle - and also have a friend with a much bigger brain than mine, plus a 3D printer, looking into making something “shiv-ish” for that space. All in this little turn around haha.

I will be doing the aero 30 mod (if necessary) once I get the bike put together Monday. Should be fun - hopefully a nice little upgrade for IMC time wise from last year.

Awesome bike - some great ideas.

Easier still, just undo the bolt slightly, loop the rubber on it, then screw the bolt back in. That’s how I’ve been attaching my shoes to the seat-tube for the last two years…

Easier STILL - just loop the rubber band over the bolt on the F der that the cable goes thru.

I’ve been doing this way for about a decade without issues.
(The L side one goes onto the R skewer.)

Leave it to triathletes to make something simple, complicated, and involve extraneous gear.

I mount from the opposite side, so I loop the left shoe to the (otherwise unused) cage bolt and the right shoe to a rear derailleur bolt.
