Rick from 12 years ago is shaking his head at this - but I hope that we get to see what he does as VP. I get the feeling that he is a go-getter and will take on some projects. Hopefully one of those projects will be reaching across the aisle to the few decent Republicans who remain and working with them to pass legislation.

Tim Walz’s campaign for Minnesota governor aims to bridge the great divide (startribune.com)
Tim Walz was an enlisted soldier in the Minnesota National Guard in 1999 and defensive coordinator of the Mankato West High School football team. A student at the school, where Walz taught geography, wanted to start a gay-straight alliance.
This was three years after the president, a Democrat, signed a law forbidding same-sex marriage. Soldiers suspected of being gay in Walz’s own unit could be discharged from the military. But Walz, now Minnesota’s Democratic candidate for governor, had seen the bullying some students endured and agreed to be the group’s faculty adviser.
“It really needed to be the football coach, who was the soldier and was straight and was married,” Walz said. In other words, he would be a symbol that disparate worlds could coexist peacefully.
Bringing people together and protecting the marginalized. That qualifies as awesome.

I think Tim Walz is a good man who has served his state faithfully as he sees best for a long career. I think he has some experience outside of govt. I’m always partial to a former (football) high school coach (although I prefer cross country and track coaches).
I think Harris/Walz perfectly represents where the Dem party currently is and where they want their party to be as they move forward.
I hope both party’s candidates campaign with an honest vision of what’s important to them and an honest message of how they truly intend to govern if elected.
all that said, I still can’t look at him without seeing the Chris Farley SNL character who lives in a van down by the river. but that’s not a reflection of his candidacy

In fairness, the piglets were very hungry.
I come from Wisconsin and a Democratic family. Since 2016, I have very much been in the demographic of frustrated dems with their candidates and to a degree some of their policies. I have moved more moderate but I absolutely unwilling to vote for anything with Trumps name on it. Dems have made it very hard to feel excited or invigorated with a candidate since Obama’s first term.
Enter Walz.
I am excited again for the first time in over 8 years. Finally dems seem to have realized they need to be more vocal, fight and find a way to capture voters rather than settle for the “Anything but Trump”.
I will once again post the article below because I believe this is a big part of what it will take for dems to move forward and it seems that they are starting to do this. They seem more united than they have been in a LONG time and it’s refreshing to see.
