The solution to headphones on the bike

The bottle boom box:
It even comes with a remote so you don’t have to break out of the aerobars to change the song.

Is it a joke or is it real?

Unreal. Cannot wait to see what it costs.

There’s not a whole lot of details to report at the moment, but the device (assigned the iH85 designation in SDI’s naming scheme) is apparently water-resistant and, from the pics, appears to provide some protection for your precious iPod, as well what may or may not be a wireless remote so you won’t have to pull over and disassemble the whole unit every time you want to skip a track or crank the volume. Needless to say, there’s also no word on pricing or availability, though that and some more specs should be revealed at the big show in Vegas

$100. Not too bad. I have not decided whether this is a really cool or a really stupid gadget yet…

The page I’m looking at shows a price of $99. The remote is RF.

Pretty cool, having tunes is so much more important than carrying water.

And the good news is you get to share your music with everyone else in the peleton or on the ride.

“Don’t ride with my brother”
.

No more shouting at pedestrians in my way, my ghettoblaster’ll tell them to damn well move!

Bike Bottle Boom Box - for the MTV generation.

What do products like this say about people’s constant need for external stimuli? Is a bike ride so boring that we need music? Next we’ll have little dvd players on the bikes.

That is actually kind of cool in a way…

We’re better than the MySpace Generation… ie biking around with an iphone. Simultaneously listening to music, talking on the phone and updating our blogs. Compared to that, listening to music while riding is tame.

True…now I feel like an old fart compaining about those new-fangled compact disc thingeys

. . how about the sound of the wind, the birds and nature. And for safty purposes, the sounds of approaching cars. I would never use any sort of electronic sound device while riding.

Furthermore, this just perpetuates the further spread of sound and noise pollution. They now are starting to have huge stereos in boats. So while trying to enjoy the scenic view, and the sound of the Loons on the bay at the cottage, I now have to, listen to (be assaulted by) the sounds of 50 Cent!! Another step down we go on the ladder of common-sense and civility!

Wow. All that I can say. I’m both a super techie (so I find this thing great) and a purist (so this is also about the dumbest thing ever for a bike ride). I’m very torn at the moment …

Maybe more dorkey than a Bento Box!

Whatever happened to those Oakleys that played music? I thought they were going to be the next hot thing.

I’m going to wait for the Karaoke version to come out…

That way I can sing “On your left…”.

Chris

Sometimes I want silence on a ride and other times I need some jammin’ tunes.

We ride alot. Often times the same route. Boredom can rear it’s head no matter how much we want style ourselves to be a Thoreau.
