It’s long but well worth it. Definitely a ‘light at the end of the tunnel’ for those who love college sports but hate the hypocrisy of the NCAA ‘employing’ student-athletes. I’d love to see the NCAA go down in flames, but then again for that to happen the college’s themselves would ultimately hold all the power and I don’t see anything but corrupt dealings at these football and basketball schools without some governing body.

Thank you for your thoughtful contribution to the discussion.

The comparison to the Olympics is compelling. I’m reminded of Prefontaine drawing huge crowds, and the then-AAU threatening to strip him of amateur status if he accepted appearance fees.

Now, of course, we have Bron-bron at the Olympics, and the Olympics seem none worse for the wear for being tainted with professionalism.

USOC was sick of seeing us lose Gold medals to pros from other countries…ergo NBA players allowed in the Olympics…

the whole amateurism ideal in sport is a bizarre concept I still can’t grasp.

I try, I mean I kind of get it, but then I feel like if you are older than 10 years old you should see that ideal, and then realize that pragmatism demands you abandon it or you do more harm than good.
